Lehigh University Glee Club
Alumni Reunion
October 31November 1, 2003

On November 15, 2003, Robert B.
Cutler (a.k.a. "Boss") celebrated his 90th birthday. In celebration
of his birthday, and in recognition of and gratitude for his 25 years (19541979)
of distinguished service to the Lehigh University choral tradition, a gathering
of Glee Club and Choir alumni was held at Hotel Bethlehem on Friday, October
31 and Saturday, November 1, 2003.
Robert Cutler joined the faculty
of Lehigh University in 1954. He became Chairman of the Music Department in
1958 and was appointed full professor in 1962. Before coming to Lehigh, he taught
at New York University. He is a graduate of Bucknell University (B.A.) and Columbia
University (M.A.). Professor
Cutler and the Glee Club have sung extensively on the Lehigh campus, in joint
concerts with choruses at many women's colleges, and on tour in the Caribbean
and in Europe. In 1978 the Glee Club merged with the Women's Chorus to form
a mixed choir known as the University Choir, also directed by Professor Cutler
until his retirement. An accomplished
organist, Professor Cutler was also University Organist, and he has served as
Dean of the local chapter of the American Guild of Organists. In
1986 he received the Marshall Bartholomew Award from the Intercollegiate Musical
Council for his contributions to choral music.
