Learn More About Arcadia At Home
What a treat! Together our Arcadia residents and our Arcadia At Home members enjoyed learning to bake macaroons and sponge cake. After their lesson, they enjoyed the fruits of their labor and afternoon tea!
Join us in congratulating Arcadia At Home member Dr. Satoru Izutsu for being recognized as a Kupuna Achiever for receiving “The Order of the Rising Sun” medal by the government of Japan.
As the longtime Admissions Director and Vice Dean of the University of Hawai’i medical school, Dr. Izutsu led efforts by the John A. Burns School of Medicine to assist Okinawa following World War Two. Okinawa badly needed physicians, and the UH and the Chubu Hospital in Okinawa began an MD training collaboration that lasted nearly a half-century.
The Order of the Rising Sun is the third highest honor bestowed by the Japanese government and the highest award that can be given to a non-citizen of Japan.

Today was an EXTRA sweet day to be an Arcadia At Home Member! Arcadia At Home Members went on a chocolate factory tour of Menehune Mac Candies!
Members learned all about the handmade chocolate production – from the type of chocolate used (dark milk chocolate), to the length of time makers must train (5 years!) before they earn a spot on the production line.
Most fun of all, Members were able to try their hand at making their very own box of chocolates. Interestingly enough, these “first-timers” chocolates looked just as good, or better, than the pros!
We’d love to thank Menehune Mac for showing us a thing or two about what it means to be sweet this Valentine’s Day!
