15 Craigside “Dakine Christmas in Hawaii” Program

The residents of Sounds of Craigside put on a performance that delighted not only the residents but also staff, family, and friends. The event featured a variety of performances, including the powerful rhythms of the Taiko Drummers, the graceful hula dancers of 15 Craigside, and the sweet serenade of “No Name” ukulele group. They filled the air with festive Christmas classics like “Jingle Bells,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” and, of course, “Mele Kalikimaka.” Adding an extra layer of local flavor, employee Mannix Tesoro of the Environmental Services team, served as the emcee for the program, adding a touch of humor with his pidgin commentary. The Sounds of Craigside truly know how to kick off the holiday season!

Celebrating a Century

Arcadia was overflowing with joy and celebration as Mrs. Frances Yee, reached a remarkable milestone—her 100th birthday! Surrounded by friends and family, Mrs. Yee celebrated this special occasion at Arcadia, where she has made her home, sharing laughter, stories, and cherished memories.

Mrs. Yee’s journey to 100 years has been one full of rich experiences and achievements. Born and raised on a ranch on the Big Island of Hawaii, she worked her way through both high school and college, embodying a strong work ethic and determination from a young age. After moving to Arcadia, she participated in the Arcadia Follies for an incredible number of years. Her time in the spotlight remains one of her proudest chapters, and she continues to recall with fondness the years she spent in the Arcadia Follies. Mrs. Yee has also built an impressive legacy in the world of bridge. She is a Life Master in bridge, a distinction that speaks to her dedication and skill in the game. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing bridge and mahjong—games that keep her mind sharp and her spirits high. When asked about the secret to her long and happy life, Mrs. Yee shared her biggest piece of advice: “stay curious.” This simple yet powerful philosophy has guided her through the decades, fueling her continued learning, exploration, and growth. Mrs. Yee has a son and daughter, who, along with her extended family, were all present to celebrate her century of life. Here’s to Mrs. Yee, whose strength, talent, and wisdom have touched so many lives.

Happy 100th birthday, Mrs. Yee!

St. Clement’s Preschoolers Spread Holiday Cheer

St. Clement’s preschoolers, neighbors of Arcadia, visited to spread holiday cheer by singing Christmas carols for the residents. Their performance of Christmas classics brought smiles to everyone in the room. Resident

Mrs. Sheila Black continued the holiday tradition by reading The Night Before Christmas to the children. The preschoolers shared handmade gifts with the residents, who reciprocated by giving small gifts to the children. This heartwarming intergenerational visit was a beautiful reminder of the season’s true meaning—sharing love, joy, and holiday spirit.

The Pig and the Lady

Arcadia At Home members enjoyed their monthly luncheon at The Pig and the Lady. Over the past 10 years, the restaurant has grown into one of Honolulu’s staples, renowned for its creative takes on Vietnamese classics. Members settled into the vibrant atmosphere and had a variety of dishes that showcase traditional and contemporary flavors. One standout dish was the Bun Mam Nem Heo Quay, a flavorful crispy pork belly vermicelli noodle that received rave reviews from everyone at the table. It was a blend of savory and crispy textures with bold, vibrant flavors, and quickly became a favorite among the group.

Mid-Pacific Nature Club Donation

The Mid-Pacific Nature Club donated a collection of handcrafted ornaments to Arcadia! Coordinated by Ms. Colleen Chun, the donation features beautiful ornaments inspired by the natural beauty of Hawaii. This special connection was made through Mrs. Betty Nakaji, whose granddaughter is a member of the club. You can find the ornaments displayed in Arcadia’s main lounge.

Koolau Regional Park

Arcadia Adult Day Care clients enjoyed a festive outing to Koolau Regional Park, where they relished a scenic ride, a delicious lunch, and a fun Christmas activity. The group gathered for a short but enjoyable session of painting a Christmas tree canvas, adding their creative touches to the holiday design.

“Mahalo nui to everyone for making the four Christmas Celebrations last Friday (15 Craigside, Arcadia, Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia and Home & Community-Based Services) a success! It was wonderful for the connection, laughter and celebration of people being together.”
