Voices of Aloha

15 Craigside and Arcadia residents were delighted with performances from the choral group Voices of Aloha! Everyone loved the beautiful sounds in the air and positive energy in the rooms.

The group’s roots can be traced back to 1916, when the Gleemen of Honolulu was formed. In 1984, Shigeru Hotoke became the director of Gleemen of Honolulu. In 1992, he opened the group to women and changed the name to Gleemen Plus. Mark Yasuhara assumed directorship in 2007 and during his tenure the name was changed once again, to Voices of Aloha. Jim Cismowski took over the reins in the Fall 2022. From the very beginning, Gleemen, Gleemen Plus and Voices of Aloha has been a civic, community-minded choral group.

Voices of Aloha performs regularly for care homes and retirement communities, in addition to presenting large public concerts each spring and holiday season. Their music selections cover a broad range from classical and contemporary to pop and Hawaiian favorites. The chorus is currently comprised of about 30 members who span a range of ages and backgrounds including Arcadia resident, Ms. Amy Taniguchi. Their unifying passion is the love for music and singing!

Many of the residents hadn’t been there in years, and with the sun shining and low wind, they enjoyed the gorgeous, panoramic views of the windward coast and Koolau mountains. It turned out to be a perfect day for the excursion.

Cinco de Mayo Quesadillas

To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, residents in the Health Care Center at Arcadia had yummy chicken quesadillas. Aaron Tsukamoto, Activities Aide, demonstrated how to cook this classic Mexican dish and everyone loved how it came out. Quesadillas were originally a dessert invented by the Aztecs, they used to stuff them with squash and pumpkin.

N95 Fit Testing

The Arcadia Family of Companies employees did their annual fit testing for N95 masks. The respirator must be fit tested before using it for the first time and then once a year. This ensures we wear the right respirator to protect you from germs and prevent you from spreading germs to others. Thank you to the staff members who assisted with the testing!
