Messages of Aloha

It’s often said that the word “aloha” means more than just “hello” or “goodbye.” In Hawaiian, aloha carries a deeper meaning, one that connects us to one another through love, peace, compassion, understanding and harmony.

In honor of May Day, residents, clients and members were invited to send messages of aloha across our family. Stations were set up in the various communities with flower cards for kupuna to write messages of aloha to share with others. Arcadia-created messages were shared with our      15 Craigside residents and Home and Community-Based Services Clients and Members, and those written by them shared with everyone as well.

Beautiful displays at the day care and at our communities conveyed warmth, appreciation, affection and a spirit of togetherness. Thank you to all who participated!

Jazz Band Performance

Just in time for International Jazz Day on April 30, the Air Force Band of the Pacific paid Arcadia a visit.

In their first performance in over a year, the band, comprised of members all over the world—from Puerto Rico to New Jersey—played jazz favorites for our residents. They played various styles of jazz like New Orleans and Duke Ellington Orchestral favorites.

This physically-distanced event was safe with the band performing outdoors while our residents enjoyed their tunes inside the Main Lounge.

Mahalo Air Force Band of the Pacific for making us your first stop!

Senior to Senior Project

Graduation season is right around the corner, and clients of our Adult Day Care and Day Health Center at CUC are busy finalizing commencement cards for the class of 2021.

The Senior to Senior Project is a partnership between HECO and the Center for Tomorrow’s Leaders. Clients wrote congratulatory messages inside cards (made by HECO employees) to graduating high school seniors. Residents at 15 Craigside and Arcadia also participated in the initiative.

Lei for Arcadia HCC Residents

“For you a lei...A lei of love we give to you…”

It wouldn’t have been a proper Lei Day without some beautiful hand-made lei for our Arcadia Health Care Center residents!

Arcadia Resident Ms. Lauretta Gum provided colorful ribbon lei to those residing on the second and third floors. The lei were presented with warm aloha, and the recipients received and wore them proudly.

Thank you Ms. Gum for your thoughtful gesture! Your fellow residents appreciate you!

Mother’s Day Bookmark

With Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday, 15 Craigside residents created origami bookmarks for themselves, a friend or mother they admire. They used patterned paper to create the origami heart and decorated the popsicle stick with markers and a unique quote. With flowers, plants and chocolates being among the top mother’s day gifts, it’s neat that recipients can now hold a spot in their favorite book.

A Special 100th Birthday

The term “Centenarian” denotes someone who has achieved the milestone of reaching 100 years old, and the term is often associated with longevity. Mrs. Jennie In, Arcadia HCC Resident, recently celebrated this incredible milestone birthday with two drive-by “parties”!  Mrs. In received so many flowers and lei for her birthday, staff began to call her room “Jennie’s Flower Shop.” Cheers to 100, and many happy returns!

CUC Superheroes

It’s a bird, it’s a plane—it’s a client from our Adult Day Care and Day Health Center! Our staff dressed in superhero attire, and clients had the chance to get in on the fun by making their very own mask based on their favorite characters. Clients chose Superman, Wonder Woman, Captain America and more. Now off to save the world!

“Mahalo to each and every one of you for continuing to keep our residents, clients and members at the heart of everything you do.  It is because of your commitment, dedication and passion that we continue to successfully navigate this pandemic.” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
