Aloha Hours!

15 Craigside and Arcadia residents had a great time at their January Aloha Hours! New residents were welcomed and January birthdays were celebrated. At 15 Craigside, residents welcomed Renee Ohta, Marketing and Sales Coordinator, in her new position as Executive Assistant, and Kat Kiehm as the new Dining Services Manager. The talented Jolz Duo performed favorite oldies while some residents joined in for line dancing! Arcadia’s Aloha Hour celebrated Lunar New Year! The Main Lounge was decorated with a large paper dragon, lanterns, and flooded with red and gold. Residents enjoyed yummy pupu and beverages prepared by the Dining Services team and music by Terry Tom. The Chinese horoscope for 2024 foretells a year of prosperity for the dragon, symbolizing abundance and good fortune.

Mahalo, Lorri!

After 13 years of service to the Arcadia Family of Companies, Lorri Kobata, Director of Talent Acquisition & Employee Development, has retired! We will miss Lorri’s vibrant, positive energy that she effortlessly spread throughout the communities. She will be spending quality time with family in Hawaii and on the mainland. Thank you, Lorri!

Delicious Korean Lunch

In January, 15 Craigside residents and their guests enjoyed a Na Mea Ono (The Delicious Place) Korean lunch! The menu featured kalbi, meat jun, Korean fried chicken wings, and kimchi soup. There was also a salad bar with japchae, soy potatoes, taegu, kimchi, cucumber kimchi, bean sprouts, and choi sum. A special melon soju was offered and they ended the meal with a Melona bar for dessert. One resident shared, “It was such a treat because I haven’t had a Korean meal in awhile!”

Happy 100th Birthday!

Happy 100th Birthday to Arcadia resident, Mrs. Nancy Uchigakiuchi! In celebration of her amazing birthday, residents and employees gathered in the Chapel to express warm wishes, sing happy birthday, and enjoy a slice of cake. Pictured on the left is Mrs. Uchigakiuchi with her daughter and fellow Arcadia resident, Mrs. Colleen Chun.

Tie-Dye Shirts

In celebration of Activities Professionals Week, Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia residents enjoyed a fun tie-dye shirt making activity. Each resident crafted their own beautiful design that was worn on tie-dye day during the Arcadia Family of Companies’ spirit week! During the Great Depression, people created tie-dye clothing using blackberries, red cabbage, and marigolds in an effort to save money.

Frostcity Taiwanese Snow Ice

The Arcadia Adult Day Care at Central Union Church clients visited Frostcity, a cozy corner that serves Taiwanese style snow ice, bubble tea, and other sweet treats. They are known for their unique flavors, toppings, and incredibly soft ice. Some of their most popular flavors include haupia, mudpie, black sesame, Nutella, and green tea.

Chinese New Year Lantern Craft

Kate Teruya, a junior at Punahou School, led Arcadia residents through a Chinese New Year lantern making activity. Participants wrote their intentions for the year on a piece of paper that included from longevity, good fortune, luck, and wealth. The paper was then placed and sealed inside of the lantern. Residents had so much fun learning and getting to know Kate!

American Heart Month

To celebrate American Heart Month, Claire Bailey, Arcadia Home Health Services Clinical Manager, coordinated an event at Central Union Church. Clients and employees took a beautiful stroll around the neighborhood to get their hearts pumping. Claire also demonstrated how to use the automated external defibrillator (AED) machine!
