Aloha in Bloom: AFC May Day Celebrations
May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii, and across the Arcadia Family of Companies, residents, staff, families, and guests came together to celebrate the spirit of aloha through music, dance, and shared traditions. Festivities included lei making with colorful flowers and ti leaves, along with hula performances, ukulele players and singers that filled the communities with joy.
These special events brought each community together to honor Hawaii’s traditions while creating meaningful moments of connection and fellowship. Mahalo to everyone who helped make the celebrations so memorable with kindness, compassion, and plenty of aloha.

A Stylish Derby Tradition
Arcadia residents Mrs. Kay Fitzsimmons, with assistance from Mrs. Damaris Kirchhofer, brought Derby spirit to life by leading a Kentucky Derby hat-making activity in the days leading up to the event. Residents gathered to create their own festive hats, showcasing their creativity with colorful ribbons, flowers, and decorative accents. The celebration continued on Derby Day with a lively viewing party organized by Mrs. Fitzsimmons in the Main Lounge, where residents watched the race on a projector screen while enjoying games, prizes, and snacks. Mat’s Place added to the festive atmosphere by serving traditional Mint Juleps, and many residents arrived dressed for the occasion in their handmade Derby hats. Now in its second year, this resident-led tradition once again brought the community together for an afternoon filled with fun, creativity, and camaraderie.
Handmade Gifts
