Celebrating Motherhood and Inspiring Leadership

The Arcadia Family of Companies was proud to serve as the Presenting Sponsor of the Hawaii Lung Association’s inaugural Breath of Motherhood Awards, celebrating the spirit of ha, the breath of life. The award recognizes both the first breath of life a mother gives and the essential work women do every day.

The event honored four extraordinary women whose leadership, mentorship, and service have made a lasting impact on our Hawaii community: Kathy Morimoto, Mel Pieper, Kalene Sakamoto, and our very own President & CEO, Suzie Schulberg. Suzie’s compassionate leadership is deeply inspired by her mother, Betty White. Following Betty’s recent victorious battle with lung cancer, Suzie’s connection to the American Lung Association’s lifesaving mission has become deeply personal, highlighting the vital importance of family vigilance and collective care. Congratulations, Suzie! We are incredibly proud of you and grateful for your inspiring leadership and dedication.

Ono Bites & Piano Tunes

Ono bites, live music, and great company made for a memorable Na Mea Ono Cocktail Hour (The Delicious Place) at 15 Craigside. Residents enjoyed kalua pork sliders, chicken wings, and homemade salsa while Terry Tom played piano and his melodeon, bringing relaxing entertainment throughout the hour.

Kakaako Day Out

Arcadia residents enjoyed a stroll through Kakaako Waterfront Park, taking in ocean views and relaxing along the paved paths. Afterward, they dined at Alo Cafe, where they enjoyed a variety of delicious dishes.

Together Again at 15 Craigside

Arcadia’s Na Kupuna O Arcadia Hula Halau and the 15 Craigside’s “No Name” Serenaders once again joined together for a collaborative performance, this time at 15 Craigside, continuing a growing tradition of bringing the two communities together. Their shared performance reflected the strong connection built through ongoing collaborations, creating a meaningful afternoon of music, hula, and fellowship for residents.

From Architecture to Landscapes

Mr. Larry Ueki, a client at Arcadia Adult Day Care, rediscovered his love for painting after joining the program in 2018. He first developed an interest in art at four years old, when he began taking lessons. Before retiring, Mr. Ueki worked as an architect, blending creativity with precision in his designs. Today, he applies those same skills to landscape painting.

Sweet Stop at Frost City

Arcadia Adult Day Care clients enjoyed a visit to Frost City in Honolulu, a popular dessert shop in the Kakaako area known for its Korean-style shaved ice, also known as bingsu. During the visit, clients cooled off with bowls of finely shaved ice topped with fresh fruit, sweet syrups, and creamy condensed milk. The light, fluffy texture and refreshing mix of cold, sweet, and fruity flavors made each treat especially enjoyable.

Rooted in Nature

Residents from Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia visited Foster Botanical Garden in central Honolulu, a historic site featuring tropical plants, orchids, and towering trees from around the world.

“Receiving the Breath of Motherhood Award is a true honor. It’s a reflection of the incredible team at the AFC who inspire me every day to show up fully, both as a professional and as a mother. When we support one another, we make everything possible.” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
