Summer Sun and Fun
Summer is in full swing across the Arcadia Family of Companies! As temperatures rise and days grow longer, our residents, clients, members, and employees are embracing the season with refreshing treats and outdoor activities. At the 15 Craigside Health Care Center, residents and staff gathered for a BBQ featuring hot dogs, hamburgers, and watermelon, enjoying playful outdoor fun with water guns and balloons. The Arcadia Adult Day Care Center celebrated National BombPop day with red, white and blue popsicles! At the Solstice Party on the lanai of Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia, residents had a blast flying kites, playing with giant bubble wands and a sand table, and cooling off in a splash pad, along with creamsicles and fudgesicles. Arcadia residents and employees came together for an ice cream social, offering a variety of frozen desserts including ice cream sundaes, Haagen-Dazs bars, fruit bars, and more!
Science for Seniors
Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia launched “Science for Seniors,” inspired by Clive Wilson's philosophy that "no one is too old to learn." The program explores neuroandragogy, showing adults can enhance mental sharpness and potentially grow new brain cells through lifelong learning. HOKA residents enjoyed an activity using hot water and capsules that dissolve to reveal sea creature-shaped sponges, sparking joy and curiosity.
Patriotic Attire
Clients at the Arcadia Adult Day Care enthusiastically showcased their spirit for Patriotic Day on July 3rd, donning a vibrant array of red, white, and blue attire. Their enthusiasm filled the Center with a festive atmosphere, reflecting their deep appreciation for the occasion.
PBS Hawaii Tour
Arcadia At Home members and 15 Craigside residents enjoyed an insightful tour through the PBS Hawaii television studio in Honolulu. They explored the studio's inner workings, including the control room, witnessing firsthand where television magic happens. After observing a teleprompter in action, with scrolling text for the on-air talent, they met the beloved PBS Kids characters.
4th of July Performance
The 15 Craigside Theater and Lobby echoed with patriotic music performed by resident group, the Sounds of Craigside for the 4th of July. Images complemented the performance and everyone in the audience received American flag bandanas to wave proudly. The group No Name also performed a beautiful Hawaiian song, “Ka Loke.”
100th Birthday Celebration
15 Craigside celebrated another centenarian birthday of Mr. Sam Fujii! The Health Care Center employees surprised him with birthday balloons and cupcakes. Activities Supervisor Gina Heshiki affectionately refers to him as a “living gem." Mr. Fujii served as a medic in the Army's 442nd Battalion during World War II. Happy 100th Birthday, Mr. Fujii!
Flowering Friendships
Arcadia Adult Day Care client Ms. Patsy Ann Ching crafted gorgeous crown flower lei for her friends Ms. Barbara Miyasato and Ms. Eleanor Teraoka as a token of appreciation and thanks for making her feel welcome when she first joined the Center. The flowers come from her sister’s crown flower trees, and each lei takes her approximately one hour to make.
Royal Hawaiian Band Glee Club
Residents of Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia were delighted as they gathered on the lanai to enjoy their lunch, serenaded by the Royal Hawaiian Band Glee Club. The soothing melodies and harmonious tunes created a delightful ambiance with the sounds of live music. They had received official permission for the band to perform from the Mayor of Honolulu!
