Year of the Tiger

The Gee Yung Martial Arts Dragon & Lion Dance Sports Association returned to 15 Craigside for the annual Chinese New Year Lion Dance Blessing! Although residents could not attend in person, the performance still brought good luck and prosperity for the upcoming year. Red envelopes from residents and employees were strung for the lion to receive for good luck as well. The residents are able to virtually watch the special performance throughout the week. Gung Hei Fat Choy (May You Be Prosperous and Happy) & Sun Nien Fai Lok (Happy New Year)!

Intention Bracelets

Residents and staff at Arcadia were given the opportunity to attend an intention bracelet making event, hosted by the Programs team. The goal was to make a beaded bracelet with a word of intention to help align your vision for the new year with the Arcadia Family of Companies’ core values. Participants had the choice of small or large beads, and were able to pick their own colors and word.

Tiger Paper Craft

As the Lunar New Year roars in, 15 Craigside residents continued making festive decorations. Check out the paper tiger craft they cut and folded to create the 3D figurine. The residents also shared which Chinese Zodiac signs they are. Mrs. Ellen Fukuda’s father was a tiger, and Ms. Victoria Sakai made it for a friend who is a tiger.

Sunflowers in Bloom

Arcadia At Home member, Mrs. Stephanie Sims, planted sunflower seeds at the sunflower booth during the HCBS Core Values Fair last November. The sunflower booth represented the core values Faithful and Gentle. The flowers are finally in bloom after more than two months of nurturing them!

Mrs. Sims sent the photo showing the flower’s progress along with the note, “Our sunflower plant had a mini bloom this weekend! Didn’t expect such a cute, little sunflower…guess it just didn’t have enough sun while it was growing up. It made us smile. Just keeps getting Happier! I love it!”

Frito Pies for National Corn Chip Day

Arcadia residents were treated to a delicious snack from the Programs team last week. Resident, Mrs. June Honda, left this glowing review: “Frito Pies are a popular southern snack not normally served here in Hawaii. To celebrate National Corn Chip Day on January 29th, Arcadia made sure that we were all exposed to this southern treat. As always, we were greeted by Arcadia's cheerful Programs gals. Pictured on the right, Natalie is full of smiles as she delivers our do-it-yourself Frito Pie (Fritos, chili, chili condiments). It’s amazing how a smile can been seen through a mask!”

Kudos to Arcadia’s CNAs

"Until recently, my interaction with our CNAs consisted of pleasantries exchanged in passing. But during my recent quarantine, I experienced first hand, the patience, dedication and graciousness our CNAs exhibit on a consistent basis in caring for those of us who are shut in. A huge MAHALO to our wonderful CNAs!" - Mrs. Marcia Wong, Arcadia Resident

Valentine’s Day Crafts

Arcadia’s Health Care Center residents are getting into the spirit of Valentine’s Day by making themed arts and crafts. Some of the residents painted their name on their design, while others kept it simple.

Peanut Butter Trifle

To celebrate National Peanut Brittle Day on January 26th, Arcadia residents made a scrumptious peanut butter trifle. The desserts were made by layering various ingredients such as chocolate cake, pudding, peanut butter chips and Almond Roca inside a small mason jar.

"Kung Hee Fat Choy! While we may not see it right now, this year holds much optimism and adventure ahead. And remember, in all that we do, always seek a balance between courageous leadership and compassionate humility. Happy Year of the Water Tiger!” - Suzie Schulberg President & CEO
