Celebrating Lunar New Year
The Arcadia Family of Companies welcomed the Year of the Fire Horse with vibrant Lion Dances performed by the Gee Yung Lion Dance Association in celebration of Lunar New Year. Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia residents enjoyed egg rolls and dumplings, symbolizing wealth and prosperity, along with sticky rice cakes and gau for good luck. The gathering also featured special Bingo games with fun, horse-themed prizes.
The Year of the Fire Horse, which occurs every 60 years, brings energy, passion, speed, and freedom. Known for it's intense momentum, transformative opportunities, and accelerated pace of life, this dynamic zodiac year inspires a "no standing still" spirit and encourages bold, forward movement.
Aloha in Song and Dance
Arcadia’s Na Kupuna O Arcadia Hula Halau and 15 Craigside’s “No Name” Serenaders joined together for a heartwarming performance at Arcadia’s Health Care Center. In true Hawaii fashion, the group embraced being on “Hawaiian time” and even sprinkled in a few Christmas songs. Arcadia Health Care residents smiled and sang along as the Serenaders performed favorites like “Come On Over,” “Hawaiian Lullaby,” and “To You Sweetheart/Aloha Oe.” The halau’s graceful hula added a beautiful touch, bringing each song to life. It was an afternoon filled with the spirit of aloha, reminding everyone just how special it is when we come together.
Sunshine and Smiles
Arcadia residents enjoyed a beautiful day outdoors with a relaxing walk around Magic Island. With ocean views, gentle breezes, and plenty of sunshine, it was the perfect opportunity to get fresh air, stay active, and enjoy each other’s company.
Tasty Times at Jade Dynasty
Arcadia At Home members enjoyed lunch at Jade Dynasty in Ala Moana, where they shared delicious dim sum.
A Hole-in-One Community Project
Residents at 15 Craigside turned a simple idea into a community project by creating their own golf cage in the basement parking lot. The idea began when one resident noticed a neighbor practicing his putting against the wall, pausing each time a car entered or exited. Wanting a safer, more convenient place to practice, the idea came to life. After receiving approval from the advisory board to use two parking stalls, fellow residents quickly rallied together to bring the vision to life. This grassroots, self-sustaining project was entirely resident led, from taking measurements and securing donations to constructing the golf cage themselves. The space was blessed upon completion, and a custom sign was added so now everyone can enjoy practicing their swing.
Soaring Beauty
AFC Board Chair Martin Zorn shared striking wildlife photos of adult and juvenile bald eagles, along with a magpie in flight, beautifully capturing their power, grace, and the everyday wonder of nature.
A Sweet Island Tradition
Residents of Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia celebrated Malasada Day, Hawaii’s version of Fat Tuesday, with a fun hands-on activity. They gathered to mix dough, fry malasadas, and coat them in sugar. It was a sweet celebration that honored a favorite island tradition.
