Easter Traditions Across AFC

Springtime brought joy and togetherness across the Arcadia Family of Companies as communities gathered to celebrate Easter through meaningful traditions, creativity, and connection. Residents and clients enjoyed variety of festive activities, including hands-on crafts and the much-loved tradition of dyeing

Easter eggs. Sunday Easter services gave residents the chance to reflect on the season, and one of the most memorable highlights was a resident-led project to create Easter bunny shirts. Across all communities, Easter celebrations reflected AFC’s commitment to enriching lives through shared experiences. From crafts

and worship to resident-led creativity, the holiday was filled with joy, purpose, and fellowship.

Residents Unite for Kona Low Flood Relief

Community spirit shined at 15 Craigside as residents staffed a pop-up fundraiser for the Kona Low Flood Relief Fund. Volunteers wholeheartedly stepped forward, demonstrating how eager the community was to help. Over the course of several days, residents and employees donated more than $20,000. The funds will support the Hawaii Food Bank and the Hawaiian Council, helping those in need from the recent storms. To further boost the effort, the Arcadia Foundation will be contributing $10,000 each to the Hawaii Foodbank and Hawaiian Council. Together, these generous contributions brought the total donated amount to $40,950, supporting critical relief efforts and underscoring the power of collective compassion.

Preview Performance at Arcadia

Grammy Award-winning soprano Audrey Luna and pianist Dr. Jon Korth gave an intimate rehearsal performance at Arcadia in preparation for a forthcoming official concert. The rehearsal showcased their strong musical partnership and offered a refined preview of the program. Composer Thomas Osborne, whose work is featured, was also in attendance.

Card Games Party Extravaganza

Arcadia residents and staff enjoyed a fun Card Games Party featuring donated prizes and snacks. A $10 donation included a prize and a snack. The event also featured a silent auction and raffle. Run entirely by residents, the event is Arcadia’s only fundraiser where proceeds go directly to the Arcadia Residents’ Association, helping to support and supplement resident committees throughout the community. 

85 Years of Aloha

 Cyrus Tamashiro, guest speaker at the Okinawan History and Cultural Class at 15 Craigside, shared the bittersweet news that his family will close Tamashiro Market at the end of April, ending an 85-year, three-generation family business. He is pictured with long-time friends Mr. Gene and Mrs. Roberta Kaneshiro, residents of 15 Craigside. Founded in Hilo and later moving to Honolulu, the market became known for its fresh fish and poke. As a third-generation Okinawan, Cyrus spoke about the difficult decision he and his brother Guy made to retire and the emotional challenge of sharing the news with long-time employees and loyal customers.

Sweet Moments at Jejubing

Arcadia Adult Day Care clients enjoyed a refreshing outing to Jejubing Dessert Cafe at Ala Moana Shopping Center. Jejubing is a popular Korean-style shaved ice dessert topped with fresh fruit, sweet syrups, and other delicious additions. Moments like these added a little extra sweetness to their day.

Fitness Through Rhythm

Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia residents gathered for their monthly Drum Fit session, a fun and energizing activity also known as yoga ball drumming. Set to upbeat music, they followed choreographed, rhythm-based movements designed to build physical endurance and coordination. The activity not only supports overall fitness, but also boosts mood and well-being.
