Growing Together, One Summer at a Time
Every summer, something special happens at 15 Craigside. The hallways fill with a little more laughter, the Solarium comes alive with the sound of taiko drums and the gentle sway of hula, and for three days, the distance between generations disappears entirely. Now in its fourth year, the Hoopili Summer Camp welcomed children and grandchildren of 15 Craigside staff, ages 6 to 16, for a celebration of culture, connection, and community. Together, residents and keiki shared experiences in taiko drumming, hula, line dancing, bon dancing, plantation-style games, cooking, and ikebana. These activities become more than just lessons, they created opportunities for conversation, learning, and connection across generations with meaningful traditions and stories pass from one generation to the next. The camp finished with a showcase that brought residents, employees, and families together to celebrate all that had been learned and created. Because when kupuna and keiki learn side by side, everyone walks away a little richer.
Strong Bodies, Active Minds
The Arcadia Lifestyle and Enrichment team hosted a National Senior Health and Fitness Day Fair in recognition of Stroke Awareness Month, promoting wellness, education, and healthy aging. The event featured interactive stations focused on balance and coordination, stretching and muscle relief, brain fitness, and nutrition and hydration. Wellness booths also provided practical information on stroke awareness and how to support someone after a stroke.
Creative Blooms
Arcadia residents took part in a hands-on Lei Po’o (Haku) Workshop led by Native Hawaiian lei-maker Kuhi of Lei Po’o Slay by Kuhi, where they created their own floral head leis.
BOLD Conference Highlights
Arcadia Family of Companies leaders Suzie Schulberg (President & CEO), Vivian Lai (CFO), Michael Chong (CIO), and Martin Zorn (Board Chair) attended the LeadingAge California BOLD Annual Conference and Expo in Palm Desert, California through AFC’s membership in LeadingAge Pacific West. The conference brought together senior living and aging services professionals to exchange ideas, explore emerging trends, and address challenges facing the industry.
Key takeaways included the importance of collaboration in addressing workforce and operational issues, the growing role of AI and technology in improving efficiency and decision-making, and valuable connections with financing professionals as AFC continues its master planning efforts. They also toured senior living communities in the Bay Area and reconnected with former AFC staff now working on the mainland.
Suzie was also invited to participate in the exclusive CEO Multi-site Organization (CEMO) Group, where senior living executives from across the country discussed industry trends and leadership strategies.
Spring Farewell Tea Party
Residents at the Arcadia Health Care Center celebrated the close of spring with a festive tea party. During the event, residents wore colorful fascinators made from paper plate and bowls that they painted themselves while enjoying refreshments.
Rolling into Wedding Season
June is a popular month for weddings because of the beautiful weather and start of summer. At Arcadia Adult Day Care, clients and staff celebrated with a fun toilet paper wedding attire activity, creating dresses and accessories. This creative activity has been a special Arcadia Adult Day Care tradition since 2010.
"Pride Month is a reminder that the best communities are built on inclusion, dignity, and love. Here at AFC, we celebrate the unique stories, voices, and spirits that make our ohana so extraordinary, and we remain committed to fostering a place where everyone is welcomed, valued, and celebrated." - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
