Celebrating Patriotism

Arcadia’s Arts & Crafts Committee arranged a patriotic pin craft session just in time to wear for Flag Day on Monday, June 14th and all other patriotic holidays to come, such as Independence Day. Flag Day honors our national flag and commemorates the day in 1777 when the United States approved the design for our first national flag. The colors of the U.S. flag has important meanings: red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice. Residents had fun while working with scissors and glue to decorate their pins with ribbon bows, stars, sequins, patriotic sayings and more. See page 2 for more festive red, white and blue creations!

HCC Resident Council Meeting

Arcadia’s Health Care Center holds a monthly resident council meeting led by its President, Mrs. Victoria Kajioka. As president, she goes over the agenda of new and old business. Residents also talk about their concerns or questions. Everyone has great suggestions such as having future meetings in a circle instead of separated at tables. Council members also proposed having different types of foods at meal times like German and Greek cuisine. The HCC calendar, as well as the Main Lounge calendar, is reviewed for any events they might want to attend. HCC residents are happy to visit the Main Lounge again.

White Fairy Tern Amid the Shower Trees

Have you seen the graceful white fairy terns in the shower trees of Arcadia? ”The view from our balcony is therapeutic,” said resident Mrs. June Honda. Oahu is the only main Hawaiian island white fairy terns are found, frequenting areas from Niu Valley to Sand Island. These beautiful native Hawaiian birds love seafood and catch small fish and squid from the ocean. Do you think the fairy tern in the bottom photo has fish in its beak? Perhaps it has brought back lunch for its hungry chick. Thank you, Mrs. Honda, for capturing the amazing photos!

Popcorn and a Movie

What goes better together than popcorn and a movie? The smell of freshly popped popcorn filled the air of the 15 Craigside lobby where residents could stop by to pick up popcorn and mochi crunch to go along with their afternoon movie. Mahalo to Stephanie Joe from the 15 Craigside Programs team for distributing the yummy movie snack!

King Kamehameha Day

Hawaii pays tribute to our islands’ most famous historical ruler, King Kamehameha I, or Kamehameha the Great, on June 11. King Kamehameha was known to be a fearless warrior, a wise diplomat, noble leader and beloved monarch. He is credited with uniting the Hawaiian Islands into one royal kingdom in 1810, after many years of near endless conflict.

E-Waste

Our AFC communities of Arcadia and 15 Craigside collected computers, laptops, printers and other unwanted electronics. Can you believe over a ton of e-waste was gathered to fill an entire parking stall? Thank you to our hardworking IT team (shown left to right: Mike Chong, Dan Fong and Ki Lung Chan), for recycling in this responsible and earth-friendly process!

“On June 10th the AFC’s final COVID-19 Update Letter will be sent out! As the pandemic continues to wind down, we are revamping COVID-19 communication. Stay tuned!”  - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
