Hawaii Food & Wine Festival
15 Craigside and Arcadia Dining Services teams had the pleasure of attending the 13th Annual Hawaii Food & Wine Festival! The event is a three-weekend epicurean experience that spans three islands every fall season. Co-founded by two of Hawaii’s own James Beard Award-winning chefs, Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong, the festival showcases Hawaii’s rich agricultural diversity and homegrown culinary talent through world-class culinary experiences. All proceeds go towards culinary and agricultural education, sustainability, and cultural programs in Hawaii. Everyone had a great time learning from internationally renowned master chefs, culinary personalities, sommeliers, and mixologists.
Craft Fair Full of Fun!
It’s that time of the year again and 15 Craigside’s Craft, Bake, and Treasures Fair was back in full swing! The residents sold baked goods and handmade crafts such as bags, small calendars, jewelry, cards, and more. Residents, employees, and guests came to see what they could find to get a head start on holiday gifts or something for themselves. The event was once again a big success!
Kaimuki Shokudo Luncheon
The Arcadia Adult Day Care clients spent the afternoon dining in at Kaimuki Shokudo. This restaurant opened in April and has caught the attention of many locals for their delicious izakaya classics with a rustic, homey edge. They serve vegetables, seafood, kamameshi, donburi, soba, kakiage tempura, and more. Everyone wiped their plates clean and finished with Shokudo’s iconic honey toast with ice cream.
Loan's Salon
Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia (HOKA) residents love spa days on Wednesday afternoons! Loan Nguyen, HOKA Wellness Assistant, enjoys sharing her talents and creativity through nail art — they call it “Loan’s Salon.” Loan’s beautiful nail designs and colors never fail to bring a smile to the residents’ and families’ faces. Thank you, Loan, for bringing excitement, joy, and love to HOKA!
Kalani Student Volunteers
The Kalani High School Health Academy students visited 15 Craigside’s Health Care Center to help with arts and crafts, physical games, and socialize with the residents. The Health Academy allows students who have an interest in a career in the medical field to acquire new skills, gain experience, and learn the basics of the industry. Residents are always delighted to engage and interact with the youthful volunteers!
Aloha Hour with a Special Guest
The 12th floor hosted 15 Craigside’s Aloha Hour this month with guest performer, 2023 Na Hoku Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award nominee, Karen Keawehawaii. Accompanied by her beautiful voice, a few residents danced hula to “My Yellow Ginger Lei.” Karen also kept residents laughing with her vivacious personality. It was so much fun!
Hat Day!
The Arcadia Adult Day Care at Central Union Church clients had a hat day! Everyone showed their spirit by wearing their favorite head accessory. The history of hats extends back millennia, with possible evidence of hats appearing as early as 30,000 years ago. Many head coverings throughout history carry religious or ceremonial significance.
Farrington Health Academy
Farrington High School’s Health Academy visited the Health Care Centers at 15 Craigside and Arcadia as well as other departments. The Academy’s vision is to produce compassionate, competent, and committed healthcare professionals who strive for excellence. Their mission is to prepare students through rigorous academic and real-world experiences.
