Honoring Our Veterans

The Arcadia Family of Companies celebrated Veterans Day by honoring our residents, clients, members and employees who served our country. Arcadia held their annual Veterans Day Program in the Main Lounge. They were joined by the Makani Collective Woodwind Quintet from the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division Band, the Punahou Junior ROTC cadets led by Robert Takao, and invited speaker and Retired Rear Admiral Alma Grocki. The program closed with a beautiful Armed Forces medley where veterans stood up during the medley of the branch they served under. Residents at 15 Craigside enjoyed a banana split treat during lunch. The refreshing dessert was topped with crushed pineapple, strawberry and chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and a cherry. Arcadia Adult Day Care recognized seven veterans with a lei, certificate, goodie bag, and shared a little history of their military careers. Thank you veterans for your hard work and dedication to keep our country safe and free. It’s a pleasure to celebrate your loyalty, integrity, and courage.

Deals and Steals At the Auction

The Silent Auction at 15 Craigside returned this year with 375 donated items by residents. Residents and staff were able to bid on the wide array of items including ceramics, glassware, antiques, dolls, artwork, jewelry, housewares, and more. Bidders were able to check on their bids up until 3:00 pm. The last five minutes got really competitive with all of the bidding wars!

Arcadia is Blooming!

Arcadia resident, Mrs. June Honda shared her excitement about the Dining Room continuing to open up. In addition to the buffet and menu items, there is a daily dinner special. Salmon okazuke was featured as a dinner special. For breakfast, the omelette station is open on Sundays. Mrs. Honda said, “Ivan is impressive when making those omelettes. He gives 5-star resort's chefs stiff competition, let’s see top resorts match that!”

AHCA/NCAL Conference

The American Health Care Association and National Center of Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL)'s annual convention and expo took place in Nashville, Tennessee. It is the largest gathering of post-acute and long term care providers, vendors, and affiliates. The Arcadia Family of Companies employees who attended were Keleka Ho'okano, Jhoselyn Calibo, Jon Shiraki, Irene Baker-Ausby, Roselle Salon, and Roland Salon.

National Gratitude Month

November is National Gratitude Month and Arcadia celebrated with many fun festivities. The campaign kicked off with a “You are the only Calzone for me!” activity where residents made delicious treats filled with meat, sauce, cheese and vegetables. They also took a “You’re a breath of fresh air!” trip to Tantalus lookout and had a yummy lunch from Kahai Kitchen. Most recently, Arcadians made “You’re kinda a big dill!” Chex mix and had a great time creating their own dill pickle-flavored snack!

Punahou JROTC Puppet Show

The Punahou School’s Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) students visited Arcadia to perform a puppet show. Residents loved the fun and educational performance about the history of Veterans Day. The holiday was originally called Armistice Day to honor veterans of World War I. After World War II and the Korean War, it changed to Veterans Day.

AHHS Team Meeting

The Arcadia Home Health Services (AHHS) team had a meeting that included a fun game called “Who Am I?” Each employee chose to be a real person or fictional character such as Mickey Mouse, Santa Claus, Arcadia Family of Companies President and CEO Suzie Schulberg, and more. They had so much fun guessing the names and it was great for team building!

Iggy Jang

Arcadia enjoyed a special violin recital by Iggy Jang with assistance from his wife, Christine Sueshisa-Jang on the piano. Iggy Jang is a concertmaster of the Hawaii Youth Symphony and teaches at the University of Hawaii Manoa. He is praised in the United States, Europe, and Asia for his excellent sense of style, impressive musicianship, and unique timbre.

“November is National Home Care Month and we recognize our Home Health Services team members who make a remarkable difference in the lives of our clients. Thank you for your compassion and care! This week, we also say a big mahalo to our awesome Programs and Wellness professionals and all that they do to keep our kupuna healthy, active and engaged.” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
