HCBS Core Values Fall Fair
Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) held a festive Core Values Fall Fair on the day before Thanksgiving at the Arcadia Adult Day Care Center. The event centered around the Arcadia Family of Companies’ eight core values and reminded everyone to live by and incorporate these values into their daily lives. HCBS clients, members and staff were able to visit booths that represented the core values:
- Humble/Honest: humble pie, Honest Tea and cookies
- Merciful: write thank you notes to healthcare heroes of Kapiolani Medical Center
- Peaceful: relaxing area
- Just: food drive for the Hawaii Food Bank
- Gentle/Faithful: plant sunflower seeds
- Understanding: understanding emotions game
It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas!
Residents and employees have been busy decking the halls of 15 Craigside and Arcadia. Joyful Christmas decorations of trees, wreaths, lights, poinsettias, reindeer and more are out on display for everyone to enjoy and get into the holiday spirit. Take a stroll around our communities to take in all the festive décor!
Thanksgiving Lunch
Arcadia At Home members enjoyed a Thanksgiving lunch together outdoors at the HCBS Core Values Fair. The delicious meal was prepared by Chef Kyle and the team from 15 Craigside.
Core Values Hunt
In a quest to find the 15 Craigside core values, residents organized and went on a fun scavenger hunt. Participants picked up an answer sheet and a small treat to keep their energy up during the search. Each core value was hidden under a number and once the residents found one, they peeked under it to reveal the core value. It was a great way for the residents to socialize and get moving!
Craigside Coffee Café
A welcome morning boost was recently served to 15 Craigside employees. A Keurig coffee maker and coffee pods were generously gifted by the family of resident, Mrs. Charlotte Matsuda and the late Mr. Alfred Matsuda. Daughters, Lynn Kato-Matsuda and Laurie Matsuda said, “We really appreciate the kindness and wonderful care mom and dad have received at Craigside.” Thank you, Matsuda family!
Mahalo - You’re Terrific
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on family, extended family and friends who make a difference in our lives. One Arcadia resident couple (who wishes to remain anonymous), feels blessed to have Arcadia as their extended ohana and ordered pens with a special message for all Arcadia staff. These residents are thankful that the entire staff keeps them and every resident happy and well.
Handmade From the Heart
A big thank you to “The Christmas Co. (Elves),” also known as Arcadia residents, Mrs. Sheila Black, Ms. Lauretta Gum, Mrs. Anne Hedani and Ms. Amy Taniguchi, for thoughtfully making wreath pins for employees to wear. One of the group of crafters even walked from Arcadia all the way to Market City Ben Franklin to get the beads and adornments to create the pins!
Thanksgiving Gratitude Tree
For Thanksgiving, 15 Craigside residents and staff shared what they are grateful for on the leaves of a Gratitude Tree. Did you know that practicing gratitude helps increase feelings of happiness and a positive mood, boost the immune system, reduce stress and increase resilience? Let’s continue to reflect on what we are thankful for throughout the year!
Christmas Drive
In the giving spirit of the holiday season, Arcadia is making special packages for the seven classes (preschool and kindergarten) of St. Clement’s School. Residents and staff have been donating unopened toilet paper, paper towels, tissue, hand soap, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and school supplies to gift to the neighboring school. Mahalo to everyone for their generous contributions!
“With restrictions loosening throughout the state and the Omicron variant on the rise, please remember to continue practicing strong infection prevention measures during this holiday season…our residents, clients, members and fellow employees are counting on you!” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
