Lunch With a View

Last week, Arcadia At Home (AAH) visited The Kahala Hotel & Resort’s Plumeria Beach House for their February member luncheon. On the edge of the beach, the oceanside restaurant offers open-air dining with gorgeous views. The luncheon started off with blue skies, but with the intermittent stormy weather we’ve been having, the rain soon rolled in. Luckily the group was seated under the roof. Everyone’s lunch was delicious, and member, Mrs. Adele Chong, had high praise for the misoyaki butterfish. The vegetarian options, such as the grilled vegetable panini and the grilled vegetable grain bowl, were also crowd favorites. As lunch wrapped up, Dee Rezentes, Director of Sales for Home and Community-Based Services, shared about her experience swimming with the dolphins at the hotel. Elyse Espinosa, AAH Member Services Coordinator, mentioned that if it weren’t for the rainy weather, they might have made a pit stop at the dolphin lagoon to say hello.

Happy Girls’ Day!

On March 3rd, our Health Care Centers celebrated Girls’ Day or Hinamatsuri (Doll Festival). At 15 Craigside, residents folded adorable kimono from beautifully patterned and gold origami paper. Everyone also enjoyed reminiscing about their childhoods and how they celebrated this special occasion. Over at Arcadia, cute pictures of girls dressed in kimono were festively colored by residents as they snacked on delicious maki sushi.

Tie-Dye Scarf-Making and Tie-Dye Tuesdays

Beginning this week, 15 Craigside residents and staff kicked off “Tie-Dye Tuesdays,” which encourages everyone to wear tie-dye on Tuesdays. In preparation, residents got their creativity on by tie-dying scarves. After choosing two colors, residents placed the dyes on the fabric wherever they pleased. Each scarf turned out different and unique according to everyone’s style and vision. Did you know color in our environment can elevate our emotions and state of mind? Pictured above are Ms. Jerilynn Kim (left) and Mrs. Ann Kealoha (right) applying their dyes and Mrs. Judy Asman in her tie-dye attire.

National Peppermint Patty Day

National Peppermint Patty Day was celebrated at Arcadia by making simple peppermint pies. The easy desserts were made of pie crusts that were filled with Cool Whip, chocolate pudding, and crushed up YORK Peppermint Patties. After assembling the pies, residents took them home to freeze for six hours before enjoying their ice-cold treats.

Crafting Fun at The Center

Holidays are always a fun time at the Arcadia Adult Day Care Center at Central Union Church. For Girls’ Day, clients crafted kawaii (cute) Japanese dolls out of pretty paper. The next occasion coming up is St. Patrick’s Day and The Center is already in the mood! Hats made of tissue paper were created in traditional green and other bright colors.

Happy 100th Birthday!

15 Craigside Health Care Center (HCC) resident Mrs. Sue Ide recently celebrated her 100th birthday! Gina Heshiki, Activities Supervisor, shared that Mrs. Ide loves singing and playing the ukulele. In the past, she used her talents to make crochet lei for the HCC. Congratulations, Mrs. Ide, on this incredible milestone. Cheers to 100, and many happy returns!

Aloha Hour Snack Pick Up

To prepare for the “Armchair Travel: Exploring the Philippines” series, residents at 15 Craigside picked up Filipino food at the Aloha Hour Snack Pick Up. Included were Filipino-style BBQ pork skewers made by Chef Jordan Salvador and the kitchen team, puto (steamed rice cake) and banana lumpia. What a tasty introduction to learning more about the Philippines!

Piano Student Performance

In addition to visiting 15 Craigside, Arcadia welcomed Joanna Zane Fan back with more students for a spectacular piano concert. The group included her granddaughter, who performed at just nine years old! Playing the piano can help children enhance concentration and focus, boost confidence, and help them connect with their feelings and emotions.
