Service of Remembrance
Service of Remembrance is an annual celebration of life event at 15 Craigside and Arcadia dedicated to honoring residents, clients, and members lost during the year. Although typically held at the end of every year, the 2021 Service of Remembrance was held on March 3rd as it was rescheduled due to the pandemic. It was wonderful to be able to gather in person to embrace the memory of loved ones and dear friends, as well as hear from Rev. Dr. George Scott as he guided residents and staff through prayer and scripture. Pianist Angie Delight accompanied the service with hymns that those in attendance were able to hum along to. The event concluded with a touching presentation of roses at each community led by CEO Suzie Schulberg and COO Heidi Pliszka at Arcadia and COO Bree Komagome at 15 Craigside. As the names of those who passed were read, a current resident or staff member placed a yellow rose in a vase in their honor. It was a moving ceremony that brought peace to many residents as they were able to come together to celebrate and reflect on the lives of their loved ones and friends.
Welcome Back to the Dining Rooms!
The Dining Rooms at 15 Craigside and Arcadia reopened on March 7th. Happy residents are excited to be able to dine in the company of friends and neighbors once again! We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during the recent Omicron surge. To keep everyone safe, the dining experience has been adjusted in order to follow State guidelines and promote safe practices.
Diner Delivery: The Pig & The Lady
For February’s Diner Delivery, Arcadia At Home members were able to try savory Vietnamese sandwiches from The Pig & The Lady. Selection included a variety of French dip (pho or tofu) and banh mi (Portobello, classic or lemongrass chicken) sandwiches. Do you know the meaning behind the Chinatown restaurant’s memorable name? The pig is the chef, Andrew Le and the lady is his mother, Loan Le. The eatery specializes in Vietnamese and Southeast Asian fusion using locally sourced ingredients.
Mochi for Girls’ Day at 15 Craigside
To celebrate Girls’ Day, 15 Craigside residents picked up a sweet treat of mochi-covered strawberries. Oishii! Shown (left to right): Ms. Florence Nakamura, Mrs. Betty Morikawa, Mrs. Ann Kealoha and Mrs. Thelma “Willie” Faria.
Succulent Gardens
Illuminada “Minda” Hernando (center photo, left), CNA at the Arcadia Adult Day Care, helped clients make their very own succulent gardens. In her free time, Minda enjoys creating these cute mini gardens. Clients were able to select their own containers and various plants. Everyone had a lot of fun and were very proud to take their little gardens home to their families. Thank you, Minda, for sharing your passion and talent!
Mardi Gras Celebration
Laissez les bon temps rouler (let the good times roll)! The Arcadia Health Care Center celebrated Fat Tuesday with festivities on March 1st. Residents enjoyed vegan malasadas, posed in a fun photo booth and crafted Mardi Gras masks. The trio of traditional Mardi Gras colors symbolize justice (purple), power (gold) and faith (green). Masks were removed for picture taking.
Fans for Hinamatsuri
To celebrate Hinamatsuri, or Girls’ Day, the residents at 15 Craigside made a special craft. Lovely pink fans with a beautiful cherry blossom design were made and are perfect to use for the warmer, spring weather. Showing their finished products from left to right are: Mrs. Margaret Harris, Mrs. Joyce Nakamura, Mr. Masaru Abe and Mrs. Margaret Murakami.
Girls’ Day Craft
March 3rd was Girls’ Day and clients at the Arcadia Adult Day Care crafted cute decorations to celebrate the day! Using colorful cutouts and patterned paper, clients adorned their girls with flowers in their hair and pretty kimono. Kimono translates to “a thing to wear” and are mostly worn on special occasions. In Japan, girls go to shrines on Girls’ Day wearing beautiful kimono.
