Summer BBQ at 15 Craigside’s Health Care Center

Food and fun were plentiful at the 15 Craigside Health Care Center’s summer BBQ last Friday. The sun was out and it was the perfect day to be outdoors. Plates (and stomachs!) were filled with delicious grilled hot dogs, baked beans and fruit kebabs. Residents had a blast playing fun picnic games such as water balloon toss, cornhole and ring washer toss.

Thank you to Gina Heshiki, Activities Supervisor, and the entire HCC team for putting on this amazing summertime event!

Arcadia At Home’s June Diner Delivery

Arcadia At Home members got a taste of New England with June’s Diner Delivery from Jolene’s Market in Chinatown. The most popular item ordered was Jolene’s local spin on a lobster roll, the “Buttah Lobster Roll,” which is filled with lobster, lettuce, onions, daikon, carrots, Cajun butter sauce and cilantro on a house-baked roll. Dr. Anatole Lyovin (above), is happy to receive his Diner Delivery!

Time for Bingo at Arcadia’s Health Care Center!

Arcadia’s Health Care Center residents regularly enjoy a game of bingo. It looked like centenarians Mrs. Juanita Chock (left) and Mrs. Jennie In (right) were close to winning! They used colorful daubers to mark their numbers, which are much easier to use than the traditional beans that were used in the 1930s. Did you know that bingo originated in Italy and dates all the way back to 1530?

Aloha Friday Shave Ice at 15 Craigside

What better way to kickoff summer than with a sweet shave ice treat! 15 Craigside residents and staff could customize their complimentary order with their choice of syrups (melona, strawberry, vanilla or rainbow) and add-ons (azuki beans, ice cream or the works). Shave ice hits the spot during these warm summer months!

Crafting at Our Adult Day Care

Clients at our Adult Day Care and Day Health Center keep busy with a variety of creative crafts. Some say they were never good at art, but Activities Coordinator, Anela Bartels, always encourages them to try. Can you guess what everyday item was used to paint these colorful bunches of flowers? Hint—it’s a utensil.

Ice Cream Floats

15 Craigside residents recently beat the heat with refreshing ice cream floats! Residents picked up this nostalgic treat which brought back many fond memories from childhood. Options were either a classic root beer float or Coke float. Which would you choose? Cheers to Mrs. Judy Asman (left) and Mrs. Irene Nakamoto (right). How delicious!

Healthy Fruits and Veggies

Central Union Church distributes food on Wednesdays to those in need. Last week, there were leftover vegetables and fruits and the church generously shared their abundance with our Day Care and Day Health clients and staff. Sweet potatoes, apple bananas, cherry tomatoes, squash and cucumbers were enjoyed by all! A big mahalo to Central Union Church!

Lifelong Learning

Through IT and Programs training sessions, Arcadia Resident, Ms. Lauretta Gum has become proficient on her iPad. She uses her iPad to download music and acquire crochet patterns. Ms. Gum has donated blankets to our HCC residents and spreads joy to employees by sharing her creations. “The iPad contributes to continuous learning and sharing kindness.” - Ms. Gum.

“Wishing you a Safe & Happy 4th of July! Please remember to practice the 3Ws – Wear a facemask, Wash your hands and Wait 6 feet apart.” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
