Statehood Day Performance

Arcadia residents celebrated Statehood Day with a program filled with lively performances by resident groups including hula, line dance, bon dance and Reader’s Theater. Arcadia was able to resume this annual tradition that was suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic. With a distanced stage area and social distancing in the Main Lounge, everyone was able to gather once again to enjoy this wonderful event.

Hidden Worlds of the National Parks

15 Craigside residents experienced 360 degree views of four National Parks during a virtual excursion. They journeyed to Kenai Fjords in Alaska, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico and Bryce Canyon in Utah, all from the comfort of their chairs. Residents followed rangers as they kayaked through icebergs, explored a lava tube, flew with thousands of bats and rode horseback through a canyon. They even saw hoodoos - tall, skinny shafts of rock that protrude from the bottom of arid basins - up close. What a breathtaking way to explore our nation’s natural wonders!

Arts and Crafts Giveaway

Arcadia’s Arts and Crafts committee recently held a large giveaway day that was open to residents and employees. Lots of yarn, fabric, notions and other crafting materials were available. We wonder what everyone will create with their new supplies? Thank you to committee member, Mrs. Anne Hedani, for capturing these photos!

National Banana Split Day

A small group of Arcadia residents celebrated National Banana Split Day by creating their very own banana splits. The traditional components of a split banana, ice cream (vanilla, strawberry and chocolate), toppings (strawberry and pineapple), chocolate syrup, crushed peanuts, whipped cream and maraschino cherries were all available to pile as high as desired. Many residents shared that they had not had a banana split since childhood and shared memories of the drugstores and fountains that they visited in their younger years. Mrs. June Honda (above right) shared, “It didn’t even cost us 10 cents. It was FREE! Another reason we’re soooo elated to be a part of the Arcadia family!” Thank you to the Programs team for hosting this fun event.

Aloha Shirt Dollar Origami

15 Craigside residents celebrated Aloha Friday by making origami aloha shirts from dollar bills. These simple, yet adorable shirts were created with just a few folds. Mrs. Dorothy Tom and Mr. Masaru Abe used hand-eye coordination and show their finished products. The shirts make a great gift and are the perfect way to spread some aloha!

Arcadia Aloha Hour

The August Aloha Hour filled the tummies of Arcadia residents with gyoza, edamame and a choice of drinks including sparkling cider and wine. Dr. Lida Chase picked up her yummy pupus from Ashley Maeshiro and Gillian Davis who made the deliveries to the floors. This month, a virtual program was shown in the apartments to welcome new residents and celebrate birthdays.

‘Amakihi from Haleakala

We are sharing another photo captured by Arcadia Family of Companies’ Board Chair, Mr. Martin Zorn, during his recent camping trip to Haleakala. This amazing image shows the ‘Amakihi bird, one of the most common and adaptable of Hawaiian honeycreepers. The Hawaii ‘Amakihi is found in all types of habitat and currently exists only on the Big Island, Maui and Molokai.
