Sacred Hearts Alumnae, Ms. T. Phyllis Zerbe ‘49

Arcadia resident and Sacred Hearts alumnae, Ms. T. Phyllis Zerbe, is featured in the Summer issue of the Academy’s newsletter. Ms. Zerbe has a deep love for Sacred Hearts Academy and is a strong and longtime supporter. She believes in the importance and advancement of the Academy’s girl-focused education and its wonderful religious experience. “The teachers have taught the girls to always hold respect and kindness for each other and to understand their Catholic identity and to be leaders,” says Ms. Zerbe with gratitude. Ms. Zerbe is shown above with Koren Dreher, former Sacred Hearts Board Member and Arcadia Family of Companies Board Member; Betty White, retired Sacred Hearts Head of School; and Emmet White, retired AFC President and CEO at Arcadia where Ms. Zerbe has resided for 18 years.

Butterflies and Hats at 15 Craigside

15 Craigside residents recently participated in some creative craft-making. Adorable beaded butterflies were made using pipe cleaners, beads and clothespins. Can you see the cute little smiling face on one of the butterflies? To mark Make a Hat Day, a few simple folds turned paper into wearable origami fedoras. Paper flowers and feathers were added as finishing touches. How fun!

Festive Pumpkins for Autumn

Arcadia residents recently crafted pumpkin ribbon decorations for the fall season that started on September 22. Cross stitch hoops of various sizes were repurposed into beautiful pumpkins with woven ribbon in autumn colors.

Arcadia’s September Aloha Hour: 1950’s Diner

At Arcadia, on the third Friday of every month, Aloha Hour celebrates birthdays and introduces new residents. The fun theme of September’s event was 1950’s Diner. Residents listened to 1950’s music from the Main Lounge speakers as they picked up their food and beverages. Pupus included chili cheese fries and chicken with BBQ or ranch dipping sauces. Red and white wine, sparkling cider and beer were available at the bar. Residents then tuned in to the virtual program from their apartments.

Say Cheese!

On the second Thursday in September, National School Picture Day reminds us to put on our best smiles. Arcadia Health Care Center residents marked the day by doing just that!

Up, Up and Away!

Clients at the Arcadia Adult Day Care created colorful and dimensional hot air balloons that appear to be lifting off the paper. Have you ever been in a hot air balloon?

Bookmarks from 15 Craigside

Do you remember when the group of residents from 15 Craigside donated bookmarks to the Arcadia Health Care Center Book Club after reading about them in Ho’omau? The bookmarks were also generously shared with clients at the Arcadia Adult Day Care. It’s so nice to see that the love of reading is alive and well across the family of companies!

A Thoughtful Donation

Thank you to Brooklyn, a four-year-old student at Central Union Church Preschool, for donating greeting cards to the Arcadia Family of Companies. Brooklyn and her mother, Shyla, make the cards together and wanted to share them with our residents, clients and members. The cards will surely brighten each recipient’s day and put a smile on their face!

Employee Vaccination Rate

The Arcadia Family of Companies is pleased to announce that as of September 20, 2021, the COVID-19 vaccine participation rate for employees is 98%! Thank you for caring for those we serve. We continue to promote stringent infection prevention measures for all, including mask wearing, hand washing, social distancing and avoiding large gatherings/crowds.

“It’s been quite an eventful week within the AFC! As AFC Board Member, Dr. Kent Reinker, shared in an email to me, ’It’s a game of whack-a-mole, but all you can do is keep on whacking.’” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
