Self-Serve Buffet is Open!

The residents at 15 Craigside and Arcadia are excited to welcome back the buffet! The salad bar is a favorite for most residents. Some of the popular selections include three bean salad, fruit assortment, breakfast meats, and desserts. Arcadians were delighted about the salad bar where they are able to choose the style of lettuce, toppings and dressing. 15 Craigside enjoyed delicious shrimp tempura soba topped with tamago, kamaboko, and nori. They are all so happy to have a wide range of choices again!

Alejandro's Kapahulu

Arcadia At Home members enjoyed a delicious meal from Alejandro’s Kapahulu. This hot spot for Mexican food offers a variety of authentic dishes including tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and more. The restaurant was founded by Alejandro Alvarado, born in Inglewood, California to a Salvadorean mother and a Mexican father. His goal was to incorporate Salvadorean and Mexican culture in his cuisine that bring people together and makes their bellies smile.

Dance Party

Bust a move! The Center participated in a dance party to burn some calories in an exciting way. Dancing is great for your health because it engages all of your muscles and gets your heart pumping. It is also a great way to relieve stress and increase levels of feel-good serotonin. Our clients had an amazing time getting lose, feeling the music, and enjoying each other’s company. Now it’s your turn to get up and dance!

Wine Tasting

15 Craigside residents enjoyed an afternoon of wine tasting. This month they tried Birbet by Filippo Galino, a dessert wine that is sparkling and made from partially fermented Brachetto grapes grown in the Roero area of Piedmont. The wine is low in alcohol with a sweetness that's balanced well with the fruit aromas. It’s a great wine to drink chilled either as a dessert or alongside a berried tart or custard. Residents paired it with strawberries, pound cake and a piece of chocolate.

Oahu Cemetery

Did you know Oahu Cemetery was founded in 1844? Arcadia At Home members had the opportunity to take a historic tour of Hawaii’s oldest public cemetery. They rode a golf cart around the beautiful landscape and learned about the cemetery’s history, design and alluring surroundings. It also serves as the final resting place for hundreds of well-known individuals including James Campbell and Benjamin F. Dillingham.

Halloween Display Case

Arcadians put together this magnificent Halloween display case! The Art/Design committee filled the cases with various holiday themed items including masks, pumpkins, cards and costumes. This is the perfect way to kick off the month of October and get into the Halloween spirit. Check out the display case in-person in the Main Lounge!

Fall Trees

To celebrate the beginning of fall, the Arcadia Adult Day Care painted beautiful autumn trees. Clients used an array of colors to represent the season of change and a fresh start. Fun fact: The season is only referred to as fall in America, everywhere else refers to it as autumn. We are all excited to escape the summer heat and experience cooler weather!

International Day of Peace

To celebrate International Day of Peace on September 21st, residents at 15 Craigside rang bells at 9:01 am with hundreds of others from schools, temples and homes around the world on a Zoom call hosted by Buddhist Temples of Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii. Throughout the morning, they also folded origami paper cranes which has become a synonymous symbol of peace.

“In September, we celebrated National Assisted Living Week, Environmental Services Week and National Adult Day Services Week. Mahalo to AFC’s Assisted Living, Environmental Services, and Center employees for your dedication and compassion to elevate the lives of our kupuna!” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
