Na Mea Ono Cocktail Hour
The 15 Craigside Na Mea Ono (The Delicious Place) Cocktail Hour was filled with great food and even better company. Residents enjoyed a selection of mouthwatering creations, including Roast Beef Crostini and Shrimp and Grits, which brought a comforting, southern-inspired flavor that was both rich and satisfying. The Smoked Salmon on Cucumber with avocado hummus offered a light, refreshing bite with a creamy finish. Musician Scotty entertained with local tunes on his ukulele.
Shaking Things Up with Bachata
Arcadia hosted Ali Loo, a Hawaii local and international bachata artist, who taught a fun and engaging Latin dance class. Bachata is a Latin dance that originated in the Dominican Republic. It is known for its smooth rhythmic steps and incorporates a slight hip sway. With Ali’s passion for bachata, she guided residents through the basics of the dance at their own pace, emphasizing movement and confidence. The class offered a unique opportunity to stay active, improve balance and flexibility, and connect. Ali’s visit was a reminder that dance has no age limit and can bring people together. Participants were encouraged to enjoy the music and express themselves through the dance, making the class not only fun, but also therapeutic. Residents appreciated the inclusive atmosphere and the chance to try something new while staying fit. Ali Loo’s bachata class was such a hit that the next session will be for 20 people and will take place again next month!
Royal Hawaiian Band Performances
The harmonious sounds of the Royal Hawaiian Band filled the 15 Craigside Theater and Lobby for another unforgettable performance. Joined by the talented singer Karen Keawehawaii and mesmerizing hula of Ku'ulei Hazelwood, residents enjoyed a beautiful mix of Hawaiian, Japanese, and Glenn Miller classics. Members of the Royal Hawaiian Band Glee Club also made a special visit to Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia, where they took residents on a musical journey across the Hawaiian Islands with local favorites. Almost the entire floor came to the Living Room to enjoy the music!
CeCe Making Friends
Arcadia Family of Companies’ assistance dog, Cedar (aka CeCe), had a great time making new friends and checking in on the residents with Dr. Rev. George Scott at Arcadia!
Lunar New Year Lanterns
Residents of Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia are preparing for their Lunar New Year festival by making Chinese lanterns from recycled lai see envelopes. The activity was a fun, social way to improve dexterity, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination, while getting ready for the celebration.
