Calling All Bookworms!

Arcadia Health Care Center (HCC) residents gather together to participate in a weekly HCC Book Club meeting. Currently, they are reading: “Let Me Call You Sweetheart,” a murder mystery by Mary Higgins Clark, chosen by the club members. Every week, they read 50 pages, talk about what they read and what they think will happen next. The residents love the book so far, and when they finish they plan on watching the movie version. The book club meets every Thursday at 3 pm and new members are welcome! Thank you to Stacy Aleman, HCC Activities Supervisor, for hosting the meetings.

Wheelchair Donations

15 Craigside recently donated wheelchairs to the Building Industry Association of Hawaii. The wheelchairs will be used to teach students in the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist designation program. This course teaches healthcare industry professionals, home builders, remodelers, and allied professionals how to proactively prepare for older adults with age-related diseases and how to identify home modification needs as they age in place. Graduates are able to collaborate effectively to overcome common challenges older adults face in real-world environments. Thank you to Shari Motooka-Higa for picking up the wheelchairs!

Fun at the Arcadia Day Care Center

Clients at the Adult Day Care Center have been doing so many fun activities! A few of the ladies were recently treated to manicures by our wonderful day care staff. Others played an entertaining game of roulette while some worked on jigsaw puzzles.

Virtual Painting Class with Punahou Students

Two Punahou School students held a virtual painting class for the residents of Arcadia as part of their final project for school. They guided the class step-by-step to create beautiful and unique cherry blossom trees. Everyone really enjoyed the opportunity to be in the class and were all so creative in their interpretation of the tree!

Big Island Candies and Honolulu Cookie Company

15 Craigside residents virtually visited Big Island Candies and Honolulu Cookie Company. Both local companies have become staples of Hawaiian gift-giving with their quality, handmade products. After the tour, attendees received samples, which included Big Island Candies’ half-dipped chocolate cookie and chocolate-covered corn chip crunch bar, plus the classic Honolulu Cookie Company pineapple-shaped cookie.

Jellyfish Art at Arcadia Adult Day

The Adult Day Care and Day Health Center staff regularly provides arts and crafts activities to keep their clients engaged and active. Clients recently brought out their inner artists to create these cool jellyfish pieces using colorful yarn and tissue paper! When they’re not making crafts, they stay busy by playing trivia, exercising, or playing games with each other!

Wayne Takazono

Wayne Takazono, Artist and Art Instructor, has been painting the Benefactors of Arcadia since 2003. Benefactors are former and current residents and friends of Arcadia who donate to The Arcadia Foundation. The foundation supports our residents, kupuna and others in need, both within the Arcadia family as well as in the greater community.

Dollar Cat Origami

15 Craigside residents practiced their hand-eye coordination by making adorable origami cats with a dollar bill. This challenging, yet relaxing activity helped each maker stay in the present moment as they focused on each fold. After they completed their cat, residents could give it as a gift or keep it as a nice decoration. If you look closely, the cats even have eyes and a mouth!
