Bon Dance at 15 Craigside’s Health Care Center
Residents at 15 Craigside’s Health Care Center participated in their own Bon Dance Festival. The HCC was decorated and many residents wore tenugui (bon dance towels), which made the center look and feel so festive. After an hour of dancing, everyone enjoyed shave ice, andagi, and mini spam musubi. Thank you to the 15C HCC staff for providing the residents with such a fun-filled day!
Arcadia September Display Case: Tools
he Arcadia display case theme for September is tools. The display features a large assortment of tools used for a variety of purposes. It really goes to show the diversity of Arcadia’s residents and their interests. Some tools are for hair, such as brushes and curling irons. A few items on display are antique sewing tools. Others are for gardening, music, carpentry, cooking and more!
Celebrating 64 Years of Marriage!
Arcadia Health Care Center residents, Reverend and Mrs. Lee, celebrated 64 years of marriage last week! The couple married on August 24, 1957. For their anniversary, they played bingo to celebrate. The framed photo in front of them, shows Reverend and Mrs. Lee on their wedding day.
When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemon Loaf
Using lemons from Arcadia’s Meyer lemon tree, Arcadia baker Daisy Balbas created a delicious lemon loaf bread for residents and employees to enjoy. The lemon tree was planted on-site in 2016 as a living tribute to Arcadia President and CEO Suzie Schulberg’s grandfather, Emmet T. White, Sr. He was beloved by all for generously setting up the model train displays in Arcadia’s lobby and Health Care Center every Christmas season. The Meyer lemons picked from the tree will surely delight residents and employees for years to come.
Purvé Donuts Tour
Residents at 15 Craigside virtually visited Purvé Donuts, a bakery founded by two bartenders in 2018. They are known for their fresh, made-to-order donuts with fun names. As part of their tour, residents tried the famous “Unicorn Butt Sneeze,” Purvé’s perfected cake donut topped with lemon glaze and Fruity Pebbles.
Make It, Take It Project
For August’s Make It, Take It project, Arcadia residents made a cupcake dish towel. They took colorful towelettes and disguised them as cute cupcakes! Such a unique craft idea to make for future gifts. Thank you to Arcadia’s Programs Manager, Ashley Maeshiro, and her team, for always coming up with creative activities for the residents to participate in!
Brazil From Above
15 Craigside residents “traveled” to Brazil this week, taking an aerial tour of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. They visited the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, the popular Copacabana and Ipanema beaches and the Octavio Frias de Oliveira Bridge. At the end of the tour, they learned about the acai berry which grows in the Amazon and sampled some acai sorbet!

We continue to strongly encourage all vaccinated and unvaccinated employees to continue taking necessary safety precautions, such as mask wearing, hand washing and social distancing.
