Silver Linings of COVID-19

Uplifting updates from the Arcadia Family of Companies delivered to you weekly

Mahalo and A Hui Hou to PMG

It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly a year since our partners at Premier Medical Group (PMG) Hawaii have been coming onsite to test our employees for COVID-19 every week. This past Monday, we said “Aloha” and “A Hui Hou” to the hardworking team of dedicated professionals at PMG!

Per guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), fully vaccinated staff are no longer required to be routinely tested. As such, this was the last week of routine interval testing of all employees. Unvaccinated staff will continue to be routinely tested based on the county’s positivity rates. These employees will be tested by the AFC.

We would like to thank PMG from the bottom of our hearts for sticking with us through the hardest parts of this pandemic. We couldn’t have gotten here without you!

Hui Malama Performs at Arcadia

There’s no better way to celebrate an Aloha Friday than to enjoy live Hawaiian music!

Local band, Hui Malama, performed at Arcadia last week, much to the delight of adoring residents. The trio, comprised of members John Baker, Ed Simeona and Mack Kahumoku played lovely melodies from the Chapel with the doors closed while funneling the sound into the Main Lounge via speakers.

The group played popular Hawaiian tunes and even took requests.

#BestMom

Mother's Day weekend was a chance for us to honor all of the mothers in our lives. From cards and flowers to a special meal or outing with those whom we admire, this past Sunday was filled with tender loving affection for all moms!

The Activities Team at Arcadia celebrated the Health Care Center resident moms, too! The team walked around to the residents’ rooms with a creative #BestMom photo prop so they could capture some cute photos.

For the residents that came out of their rooms, the HCC hosted a Mother's Day brunch, serving tea sandwiches and strawberries with whipped cream.

We hope our residents felt special this Mother's Day!

Fun at the Day Care Center

Our clients at the day care center are keeping busy with a myriad of activities! On Boys’ Day, clients made their own koinobori (carp streamers) to take home. In Japan, the koi is thought to be a symbol of strength, courage and success. Clients also took a ride to Ko Olina and picked up lunch at the farmers market. May 4th, or Star Wars Day, had them dressing up in fun character masks.

15C HCC Honors Nurses Week

National Nurses Week ran from May 6-12, and we took time to thank our hardworking and dedicated RNs, LPNs, CNAs and NAs for all they do. They were and continue to be our frontline warriors during the pandemic, and we love this time of year where we can revere their special personalities and loving hearts.

To get into the spirit of things, the 15 Craigside Health Care Center Activities team worked with HCC residents to prepare small goodie bags and heartfelt thank you notes to show appreciation for our Nurses, LPNs, CNAs and NAs. Residents even helped hand out the bags to employees. What a thoughtful gesture!

There’s no better feeling than being thanked and appreciated.

Aromatherapy Pillows

Finding new ways to relax is always a welcome pastime. Arcadia residents made no-sew aromatherapy neck pillows out of colorful socks, rice and essential oils like lavender and peppermint. They took them home to their apartments where they could put them in the microwave or the refrigerator for a soothing home relaxation remedy.

Harp Performance

Beautiful melodies resonated once again through 15 Craigside’s theater when harpist Sharene Taba returned for a live performance. She took song requests and played a few of her favorites, too. She even had the residents guess what songs she played. Did you know? The harp is believed to have existed since 15,000 BC, making it one of the oldest instruments in the world!

Repurposing Wine Corks

What do you do with your wine cork after drinking a bottle? If you said throw it away, you’re missing out on an opportunity to give it a new life. 15 Craigside residents used recycled wine corks and paper clips to create a unique picture/quote holder. One resident said she’ll even use her leftover corks to make this craft for Christmas presents.

“The buzz is growing in our communities and programs as we continue to emerge from the pandemic! However, let’s all remain vigilant in practicing strong infection prevention measures!” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
