HCBS Core Values Fair

At the heart of the Arcadia Family of Companies is a set of eight Core Values that guide each team member. Employees aim to be humble, be understanding, be gentle, be just, be merciful, be honest, be peaceful, and be faithful.

Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) held their annual Core Values Fair to celebrate these values and the autumn season. Arcadia Adult Day Care clients and Arcadia At Home members joined the festivities and participated in engaging activities that focused on the Core Values such as a merciful food drive and a gentle massage. Attendees also enjoyed delicious slices of humble pie and refreshing cups of honest tea.

In this season of Thanksgiving, we extend our gratitude to everyone who joined us and made the event a success. We look forward to next year’s fair!

Honoring Our Veterans

Across the Arcadia Family of Companies, we honored our veterans on November 10th. At Arcadia, the annual Veterans Day program honored over 50 resident veterans. The special event included guest speaker, retired U.S. Army Colonel Edward Cruickshank and music from the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division Band. At 15 Craigside’s Health Care Center (HCC), each veteran was presented with a medal and received handshakes of gratitude from fellow residents and staff. In appreciation of their service, veteran clients at The Center were presented with an award, lei and a jar of goodies. A heartfelt thank you to our veterans for the sacrifices they made so that we can enjoy freedom.

Communion Service

On November 12th, Rev. Dr. George Scott led 15 Craigside residents in a special Thanksgiving communion service. Cedar also joined him to spread God’s love through puppy hugs.

Talking Story

The Center’s clients recently enjoyed an afternoon talk story session with AFC Volunteer Mike Rodriguez. Everyone shared a little about themselves as they chatted about their families, favorite foods, sports and more! Thank you, Mike, for spending time with us!

Lifting Spirits During the Holiday Season

Residents of 15 Craigside and Arcadia, The Center’s clients, and Arcadia At Home members participated in family-wide card-making and writing initiative for our Maui neighbors affected by the fires. Handmade cards were filled with words of hope and encouragement for the holiday season and sent to the Maui Food Bank for distribution. Mahalo to everyone for your warmth and aloha!

Unique Flavors

Arcadia residents recently dined at Kapa Hale, a restaurant located near Kahala Mall. The meaning behind the eatery’s name is that kapa tells a story and that a blank plate, like a blank piece of kapa, is the canvas with which Chef and Owner Keaka Lee tells his stories. Popular dishes include “Holy Shiitake Risotto” and the fresh catch of the day.

Spreading Joy

Mahalo to Hawaii Baptist Academy’s Jam 4 Jesus for visiting the Health Care Center at 15 Craigside. The students danced hula, performed songs, and passed out Thanksgiving cards.

Liberty Belles

The Liberty Belles trio returned to 15 Craigside for an upbeat performance. Singing old-time war favorites like “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” to South Pacific’s popular song “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair,” residents moved and grooved and sang along also! They ended the exciting program with “God Bless America.”

Solving the Puzzle of Dementia

Arcadia Health Care Center Activities Supervisor, Erin Villaver, and HOKA Wellness Director, Heidi Caldwell, met Teepa Snow at the 2023 Positive Approach to Care Conference in Cary, North Carolina. Snow and her team shared about dementia, why changes happen, and how to support those living with brain change in a more positive and respectful way.

Mountain Pacific Quality Awards

Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia, 15 Craigside, and Arcadia were among 11 Hawaii long-term care facilities that were awarded Mountain Pacific 2023 Nursing Home Quality Awards! This year’s award criteria were based on decreasing adverse drug events, improving resident vaccination rates, preventing infection and more. Congratulations and mahalo to our staff for their hard work!

“In this season of Thanksgiving, I’d like to express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone. I’m grateful to our residents, clients, and members for entrusting us with their care, and to our employees for their hard work and dedication in going above and beyond for those we serve. Mahalo nui loa!” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
