Exploring Marine Life

15 Craigside took a fun and informative excursion to explore the Waikiki Aquarium located along Oahu’s south shore. Residents wandered through the conservation exhibits of moi (a reef fish that was reserved only for chiefs in ancient times), seahorses, reef sharks, live coral, and tropical fish unique to the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.

The Waikiki Aquarium was founded in 1904 and is the second-oldest public aquarium in the United States. Originally known as the Honolulu Aquarium, it was established as a commercial venture by the Honolulu Rapid Transit and Land Company whose wish was to share the riches of Hawaii’s reefs with the world. The mission of the aquarium is “to inspire and promote understanding, appreciation, and conservation of Pacific marine life.”

National Egg Roll Day

How did you celebrate National Egg Roll Day? Arcadians picked up hot egg rolls from Panda Express and enjoyed festive decorations that went along with the theme. The eatery’s egg roll contains cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, green onions and chicken contained in a crispy wonton wrapper. Yum!

Tea Time With Bree

15 Craigside Health Care Center residents have a Tea Time every Tuesday with members of the Leadership Team and other staff. The gathering allows residents to have conversations with employees to get to know them better and to put faces to the jobs they do. COO Bree Komagome met with residents for this week’s Tea Time where they enjoyed learning things about her and vice versa.

Mediterranean Eats

Arcadia At Home gathered for their monthly member luncheon at Ward Village’s Istanbul, a popular Mediterranean restaurant run by a mother-daughter duo. When Chef Ahu (daughter) was not able to return to her home country of Turkey for over 10 years, she found comfort in her mother’s (Chef Nili’s) cooking and decided to bring Turkish cuisine to Hawaii. Members were delighted to try various dishes such as the falafel pita wrap, Iskender doner, sarma dolma and Beyti kofte, and drinks like Turkish rose water and watermelon refresher.

Happy Father’s Day!

The potted plant centerpieces in the Dining Room of Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia are cheerfully decorated for Father’s Day. Origami aloha shirts were folded from colorful floral-patterned paper and residents adorned them with buttons and “Happy Father’s Day” messages.

Intergenerational Day

In honor of Intergenerational Day, Arcadia created an Intergenerational Stories wall featuring experiences collected from residents and employees. Now more than ever we are seeing a gap between generations. The wall shares stories, memories, traditions, and lessons we have learned from generations before us and hope to instill in generations to come.

Happy Pride Month!

The Arcadia Family of Companies celebrated Pride Month with a family-wide Rainbow Attire Day on June 1st. Mahalo to Arcadia residents Mr. Don Conover (left) and Mrs. Debbie Matsumura (right) for participating and showing your spirit! Thank you also to fellow Arcadian, Ms. Hazel Hasegawa, for capturing the photo.

Let’s Play Bingo!

Bingo is always a fun time for 15 Craigside residents to get together and test their luck at winning by the draw of numbers each round. Mr. Masaru Abe was a lucky winner but was even more excited about the quote on his prize. “Life is better when you cry a little, laugh a lot, and are thankful for everything you got.” What a great reminder!

Aukuu at Arcadia

Have you seen the aukuu at Arcadia’s Garden Pond? The indigenous waterbird is also known as the black-crowned night heron and is found near ponds, streams, marshes and shorelines. The aukuu hunts for shellfish, frogs, mice, insects, and fish as shown here. Thank you to resident Mrs. June Honda for snapping this picture of the amazing aukuu in action!

“To all the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures – on Father’s Day and every day, we appreciate you! Mahalo for being our role models and mentors by teaching, coaching and loving us!” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
