Hurricane Preparedness Event

Hurricane season in the Central Pacific (where Hawaii is located) officially runs from June 1 until November 30, though tropical cyclones can occur off season and storms can happen at any time of the year. The three hurricane alert stages are advisory, watch (48 hours before) and warning (36 hours before). Throughout hurricane season, Hawaii residents are advised to keep informed and make sure they have an emergency kit ready. Emergency kits can include items such as snacks, batteries, a flashlight, medical supplies, toiletries and a radio. 15 Craigside residents picked up Tropical Storm/Hurricane Alert brochures to better educate themselves if these storms occur. They were also able to pick up some emergency kit supplies, like snacks and paper towels. Thank you for taking the time to get prepared!

Arcadia At Home’s July Diner Delivery

For July’s Diner Delivery, Arcadia At Home members tried a variety of Mio Pastalogy’s signature homemade pastas including pesto shrimp, Bolognese eggplant, panna chicken, mentaiko and aurora shrimp. Caesar, Greek or garden salads could also be ordered to complement the pastas. Buon Appetito!

Make It, Take It – Origami Magnets

Arcadia residents crafted origami mag-nets to add some flair to their refrigerators or any magnetic surface. The folded paper designs, such as tulips, butterflies, cats and dogs, were pasted to clothespins to create cute and functional magnets.

Tissue Paper Flowers

Arcadia Adult Day Care and Day Health Center clients made beautiful floral arrangements on paper. Patterned paper vases were filled with dimensional flowers made from colorful tissue paper. Look at all the bright and cheery creations!

Ice Cream Sundaes

15 Craigside residents had another chance to satisfy their sweet tooth, this time with sundaes! Toppings included chocolate or strawberry syrup, whipped cream, and, of course, a cherry on top!

Strike!

Arcadia’s Health Care Center residents participate in a fun game of bowling every Thursday. Thank you to Activities Aide, Bobby Oyadomari, for keeping our residents active and moving!

Piano with Arkie

Arcadia residents accompanied Arkie for a lively performance of YMCA. The dancers helped to demonstrate the dance and encouraged the audience to participate in the fun. Since our regular pianists were unable to visit during the pandemic, Arcadia resident, Mr. Arkie Koehl, offered to play the piano and now entertains his fellow residents on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.

94.6% Participation!

We are pleased to announce that as of Friday, July 23, the COVID-19 vaccine participation rate for employees of the Arcadia Family of Companies is 94.6%! We continue to strongly encourage all unvaccinated employees to get vaccinated as soon as possible, especially since positive cases are on the rise, specifically among the unvaccinated.

Wild Wild West

Wild Wild West was Arcadia’s Aloha Hour theme for the month. Residents watched July’s video to meet new residents and celebrate July birthdays before picking up delicious BBQ ribs, corn on the cob, corn-bread and chili provided by Dining Services. Thank you to our Programs team, Ashley Maeshiro and Gillian Davis, for serving our residents!

“With the increase in community spread of COVID-19 and the drastic rise of positive cases on Oahu, please continue to practice the 3Ws...Wash your hands. Wear a face mask. Watch your distance. And, if you have not received a COVID-19 vaccination, I strongly encourage you to do so.” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
