"Ho'opili" Summer Day Camp

15 Craigside resident volunteers hosted a three-day Summer Day Camp called “Ho’opili,” meaning to bring together and to unite as friends. Eleven children and grandchildren of staff members ages 8 to 16 attended a fun-filled program to connect and engage with the residents. Throughout the week, attendees learned ikebana, taiko drumming, bon dance, cartooning, and origami. On the last day, there was a “Celebration of Works” where the kids showcased everything they learned to residents, employees, and their parents and grandparents. Bree Komagome, Chief Operating Officer, summed up the experience perfectly— ”The intergenerational learning and more importantly bonding was precious to observe. The employees who had their children and grandchildren attend were so grateful for the opportunity for them to connect to the place and people they serve. ”Mahalo to all of the resident volunteers for sharing your time and talents, and thank you to the Programs team for your encouragement and support in making Ho’opili a success!
