15 Craigside HCC 2021 Summer Olympics
In the spirit of the Tokyo Olympics, the residents of 15 Craigside’s Health Care Center took part in their own 2021 Summer Olympics. Residents participated in beach volleyball, soccer, tennis, bowling, discus throw, ribbon dancing and shot put. The games were filled with fierce competition and included a torch relay, medal ceremonies for the gold, silver and bronze winners, and the singing of the national anthem. Thank you to Gina Heshiki, Activities Supervisor, and the entire Health Care Center team for organizing this fun, week-long event!
National Watermelon Day Celebration
Arcadia Adult Day Care and Day Health Center clients recognized National Watermelon Day with a refreshing summertime treat and a creative craft. The cute watermelon creations look good enough to eat! Thank you to Chef Ryan and Dining Services for providing the delicious watermelon snack. Did you know that watermelon is 92% water? Sweet and hydrating!
Abstract Painting Workshop
Arcadia’s partnership with Punahou School students continued with a virtual painting workshop that focused on abstract painting. Our residents were increasingly intrigued by the class as they were offered greater creative freedom. It was inspiring to see our residents explore shapes, forms and colors to create their original art pieces.
Soda Floats for National Ice Cream Day
Arcadia’s Programs Department and Health Care Center’s Activities team collaborate on a monthly program out in the Garden. Last month, National Ice Cream Day was observed by making ice cream soda floats! Our residents enjoyed being outside together while partaking in their cold treats.
Excursion: Beyond Van Gogh
Five 15 Craigside residents went on an excursion to the Beyond Van Gogh exhibit at the Hawaii Convention Center. After learning about Vincent van Gogh’s life through excerpts of letters to his younger brother, residents saw his paintings come to life as they moved across the walls and floors. It was truly a sight to see! Those who were unable to go could attend a virtual tour presentation of the exhibit back at 15C.
Tai Chi with Sara Tompkison
Sara Tompkison, licensed social worker at the Arcadia Adult Day Care, has been teaching virtual tai chi for Arcadia At Home members since last September. Tai chi is a graceful form of exercise that’s used for stress reduction and helps increase flexibility and balance. Sara’s final class was held last week. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with our members!
Congratulations, Suzie Schulberg!
Suzie was selected as an honoree at Pacific Business News’ 23rd annual Women Who Mean Business Awards recognizing the outstanding women business leaders in Hawaii who make a difference. As President and CEO of Hawaii’s largest senior care provider, the daily contributions Suzie makes on the job is closely intertwined with the positive impacts she has on our community.
National S’mores Day
To celebrate National S’mores Day on Tuesday, August 10th, 15 Craigside residents picked up freshly made s’mores in the Solarium! This warm, sweet and gooey treat brought back memories of camping for some, while others tried it for the first time. The first known s’mores recipe was published in a 1927 Girl Scouts handbook and was originally called “some mores.”
“COVID-19 continues to surge in our state. The numbers are scary and concerning. Please, please, please continue to remain diligent in practicing strong infection control measures, get vaccinated and avoid large gatherings...your residents, clients, members and fellow employees depend on you!” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
