A Holo Pu Kakou “Together We Ride”
A group of 15 Craigside residents recently took a scenic ride to Waiahole Nursery. Located on the windward side, the nursery is a local business that is working to provide sustainable solutions to Oahu’s gardeners.
Upon arrival, residents could choose between two activities. Those wanting to learn about a food production system that uses 90% less water and combines aquaculture (raising aquatic animals in tanks) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water) participated in the aquaponics tour and talk. Others painted flower pots then planted their own small succulent plants to take back home.
After working up an appetite, everyone enjoyed an ono takeout lunch from the nearby Waiahole Poi Factory. The factory was constructed in 1905 and operated for almost 70 years until 1971. In 2009, this family-owned business reopened as a homemade Hawaiian food and traditional hand-pounded poi restaurant.
It was fun to escape the city for bit and delight in the beautiful countryside!
Kamehameha Day Performance
In honor of Kamehameha Day, Arcadia residents were treated to a wonderful Hawaiian music performance by David Asing who was accompanied by a graceful hula dancer.
Emergency Kit Supplies at 15 Craigside
With hurricane season upon us, the residents of 15 Craigside had the opportunity to stock up on supplies for their emergency kits. They put in their order for items such as bottled water, paper towels, moist wipes and non-perishable snacks. Throughout the week, the Programs team will deliver their items. Way to be prepared!
Table Games Are Back!
Let the games begin! Arcadia residents rejoiced in the highly anticipated return of table games. Bridge Game, Bridge for Fun, Mahjong and Hanafuda brought life to the Main Lounge. These leisure activities are bringing everyone together to socialize once again. In addition to being fun, these games are great exercise for memory and concentration!
Aloha Maryanne!
After 12 years of service in Sales, beginning at Arcadia and instrumental in the opening of 15 Craigside, Director of Sales, Maryanne Sullivan, retired on June 10th. The residents of 15 Craigside said goodbye to her in a touching ceremony on her last day. Maryanne will be relocating to the Chicago area to be closer to family. We wish her well on her next adventure!
Piano with Dan Del Negro
Beautiful sounds filled the air at Arcadia during a musical performance by talented pianist, Hawaii Music Award winner and Honolulu Jazz Quartet member, Dan Del Negro. Residents danced in their chairs in the Main Lounge while taking in the sweet jazz melodies being played on the grand piano in the Chapel. What a pleasant way to spend the afternoon!
