Happy Lunar New Year!
The Arcadia Family of Companies celebrated the Lunar New Year with lion dances performed by the Gee Yung Lion Dance Association, marking the beginning of the Year of the Wood Snake. The Year of the Wood Snake symbolizes wisdom, growth, and transformation. Lion dances are a symbolic gesture to drive away bad spirits and invite wealth, happiness, and success for the year ahead. The dance promotes harmony and renewal in both personal and professional spaces.
Serving and Protecting with Aloha
The Honolulu Police Department’s K-9 Narcotics Division visited Arcadia to demonstrate how their highly trained dogs detect narcotics. Officers Fernandez, Awana, and Lardizabal, along with their K-9 partners Mervin, Pitt, and Deango, showcased the dogs’ incredible ability to locate hidden drugs. They explained how the dogs’ extraordinary sense of smell is honed through rigorous training and strengthened by the deep bond of trust and communication between officers and their K-9 partners. Residents were impressed by the dogs’ focus and effectiveness under pressure.
Casino Night
Residents from the Health Care Center at 15 Craigside tried their luck at Casino Night! They played games like High Low, Roulette, Spin the Wheel, and Horse Race, with staff cheering them on. Afterwards, they exchanged their chips for a variety of prizes!
New Year's Blessings
15 Craigside, Arcadia and Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia started the new year with a special blessing from Reverend Dr. George Scott. He visited each department to offer prayers for health, peace, and prosperity, fostering unity and positivity among residents and staff. The event marked a meaningful start to 2025, with everyone feeling spiritually renewed as they entered the new year. Reverend Dr. Scott’s heartfelt words and presence brought comfort and hope for the months ahead.
Behind the Brew
Arcadia At Home members visited Tradition Coffee Roasters, where they learned about the roasting process and how flavor and aroma are crafted. Operating under the motto “Coffee should be Good to the Earth and Good to the People,” Tradition Coffee Roasters sources beans from sustainable, fair trade growers, including family-owned farms. Members discovered what makes great coffee and picked up tips for brewing the perfect cup at home.
Exploring Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden
Arcadia Adult Day Care clients embarked on a refreshing outing to Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden, where they were captivated by the awe-inspiring Koolau Mountains and the vibrant, flourishing garden. After soaking in the picturesque scenery and wandering through the lush landscapes, they enjoyed a tasty lunch provided by the Dining team at Arcadia. It was a nice break from their routines and a rejuvenating way to start the new year.
Holo Holo to Sandy Beach
Residents of Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia went on a holo holo to Sandy Beach, where they enjoyed stunning ocean views and the soothing sound of waves crashing on the shore. The trip was relaxing, and residents had the chance to take in the beauty of their surroundings, soaking up the warm sun and gentle breeze. It was the perfect opportunity to unwind, reflect, and embrace the natural beauty around them.
