May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii
The Arcadia Family of Companies celebrated Hawaiian culture, the aloha spirit, and the cherished tradition of lei giving for May Day. At Arcadia and 15 Craigside, festivities included hula performances, royal courts representing each island, and beautiful Hawaiian music. Each island in the Hawaiian archipelago is traditionally associated with a unique flower, color, or shell—elements that were thoughtfully incorporated into the leis exchanged throughout the celebration. Through music, dance, and lei giving, May Day at the Arcadia Family of Companies was a true celebration of community, connection, and aloha, bringing residents, staff, and families together in joyful celebration.
Celebrating a Century
At 15 Craigside, resident Mr. Takeo Ito celebrated his 100th birthday surrounded by his loving wife and close friends from the 12th floor. The joyful celebration included heartfelt gifts such as leis, a beautiful Japanese calligraphy of his name, and a cake to mark the momentous occasion. Cheers to a remarkable milestone, Mr. Ito!
Run for the Roses
Arcadia residents brought the spirit of Churchill Downs to life at their Kentucky Derby Tea Party, a follow-up to the Derby Hat Workshop. Dressed in dazzling, handcrafted hats, they sipped refreshments and cheered on the races in true Derby fashion! The winning horse receives a blanket of over 400 red roses, hence the nickname “Run for the Roses.” This year’s 2025 champion, Sovereignty, proudly wore the iconic rose blanket during the winner’s circle celebration, adding to the race’s rich tradition.
Double the Celebration
This May 5th brought double the fun as Children’s Day and Cinco de Mayo coincided. Residents and clients across the Arcadia Family of Companies celebrated with festive crafts, delicious food, margaritas, games, and colorful pinatas, a joyful tribute to AFC’s vibrant, multicultural spirit.
Mother’s Day Tea and Treats
Arcadia Health Care Center residents celebrated Mother’s Day with a tea party featuring an array of light bites, sweet treats, and a choice of teas. The atmosphere was beautifully enhanced by thoughtful touches of floral décor, setting the tone for a heartfelt celebration. It was a meaningful way to honor and appreciate all the wonderful mothers and mother figures in the community.
Honoring Retired Teachers and Nurses
Arcadia Adult Day Care clients celebrated Teacher and RN Appreciation Day with heartfelt tributes to their fellow retired professionals. With 25 retired teachers and five retired RNs among them, the celebration recognized decades of service, wisdom, and compassion.
Exploring International Market Place
Residents of Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia toured the International Market Place, exploring its layout, browsing shops, and shopping for essentials at the newly opened Target. They also learned about
the market’s history, posed with iconic Hawaiian figures, and took pictures by the famous banyan tree. The residents appreciated the opportunity to experience the market’s unique blend of tradition and modernity in a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
"Last week, the AFC celebrated Nurses Week and National Skilled Nursing Care Week! Let’s give heartfelt thanks to our amazing RNs, LPNs, CNAs, NAs, and HSAs for the kindness, compassion, and respect they give every day.
