Halloween Happenings at the Day Care

Halloween is coming up and the Arcadia Day Care and Day Health Center at Central Union Church is getting into the spirit! The center is festively decorated to get everyone in the mood with skeletons, spider webs, mummies, monsters and more. Team members further livened up the center with their cute and spooky ghost shirts. Clients got their creative juices flowing and crafted colorful skulls and painted jack-o-lantern faces. Thank you to Anela Bartels, Activities Coordinator, and the day care staff for making the Halloween season hauntingly fun!

Puzzle Fun

It’s always the small pieces that make the big picture! Clients at the Arcadia Day Care regularly put together jigsaw puzzles. Puzzles are great for exercising fingers and minds, having fun and feeling a sense of accomplishment.

Flower Donations

Have you noticed the vibrant flower arrangements in 15 Craigside’s lobby lately? Islands Hospice generously donated beautiful tropical flowers, and talented residents, Mr. David and Mrs. Irene Nakamoto put them together for all to enjoy!

Gentle: Namaste with Essential Oils and Tea

15 Craigside celebrated the core value “gentle” by enjoying assorted teas to relax and unwind. Residents also made aromatherapy sachets by placing rice and essential oils of either peppermint or lavender inside a bag and closing it off with a bow. Aromatherapy is known to improve sleep quality, reduce stress and anxiety, and treat headaches.

Prost! Arcadia HCC Residents Celebrate Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is the traditional German fall festival that celebrates beer, food, and merrymaking. The residents of Arcadia’s Health Care Center participated in the fun with bratwurst, non-alcoholic beer and a photo booth that put them in the beautiful streets of Bavaria!

Here are some fun facts about Oktoberfest:

  • It was originally celebrated to honor Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage in 1810.
  • In its 200+ year history, it has been cancelled 26 times mainly due to wars or the spread of disease (such as cholera and COVID-19).
  • A Bavarian waitress broke the record for most beer steins carried at once - 19 full beer mugs, each weighing roughly five pounds, totaling over 90 pounds!

Artist At Work

Mr. Larry Ueki, client at the Arcadia Day Care and Day Health Center, continues to wow us with his paintings. This canvas features palm tree silhouettes amid a beautiful sunset. Mr. Ueki uses a fan brush technique to create the details of the palm fronds. What a relaxing scene to gaze upon. We look forward to seeing what he’ll create next!

Mr. Martin Zorn and His Camera

Do you remember the amazing photos of the birds of Haleakala from previous issues of Ho’omau? Arcadia Family of Companies’ Board Chair and the photographer behind the stunning images, Mr. Martin Zorn, is pictured on the left with the camera he uses to capture the photos. Thank you, Mr. Zorn, for taking us along your trip to Maui through your photographs!

Employee Vaccination Rate

The Arcadia Family of Companies’ employee vaccination rate continues to increase! We are pleased to announce that as of October 15, 2021, we are at 99.1%! Thank you all for protecting those we serve. We strongly encourage all vaccinated and un-vaccinated employees to continue infection prevention measures such as mask wearing, hand washing and social distancing.

“With Hawaii’s COVID-19 case counts continuing to decline, and as we head into the holiday season, I ask that you not only continue to practice strong infection prevention measures, but also to remember to practice self-compassion and be kind to yourself.” - Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
