Na Mea Ono Poke Bar

Residents at 15 Craigside enjoyed another flavorful afternoon with the return of Na Mea Ono (The Delicious Place) Poke Bar! The special lunch featured a variety of fresh poke, including ahi ginger scallion, spicy ahi, ahi limu, kamaboko, and beet poke. A delicious array of toppings—taegu, furikake, seaweed, green onion, and ginger—allowed everyone to build their perfect bowl. The dining room was full of happy chatter as residents shared their favorite combos. To top it all off, everyone was treated to refreshing mochi ice cream for dessert. A big mahalo to the Dining Team and Programs for another memorable and tasty experience!

The Art of Shishu

Arcadia resident Mrs. Sheila Black invites you to explore Shishu, the centuries-old art of Japanese silk embroidery, every third Saturday in the Solarium from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Mrs. Black began embroidery in 1996 and has continued for nearly three decades. More than decoration, Shishu uses fine silk threads to create intricate, shimmering designs often inspired by nature and traditional Japanese motifs. For Mrs. Black, it is both a connection to her heritage and a source of comfort during life’s challenges.

Each month, a local instructor leads the sessions, with guest teachers from San Francisco on holiday weekends. The group is also part of the Japanese Embroidery Center in Atlanta, a global network dedicated to preserving this delicate art.

The next session will be on Saturday, September 20. Stop by to watch and experience the beauty of Shishu.

A Sweet Day Out

Arcadia At Home members love three things: coffee, wine, and CHOCOLATE! They eagerly RSVP’d for a Chocolate Happy Hour at Chocolea, a beloved chocolate shop in Manoa Valley. During the behind-the-scenes tour, they learned about the shop’s origins directly from founder Erin Kanno Uehara and watched chocolatiers create Chocolea’s famous dark chocolate truffles step by step. Erin also shared her seasonal creations, including this month’s Dubai chocolate truffle, as well as unique offerings like a rainbow shave ice truffle, kimchi truffle, and curry truffle. The tour was filled with curiosity, fun, and of course, plenty of delicious treats!

Together in Tradition

The 15 Craigside Health Care Center held its annual Bon Dance, featuring traditional dancing and participation from both residents and staff. As they danced around the yagura, they celebrated the season in honor of their loved ones.

Dim Sum-body Say, “Party?”

Residents at Hale Ola Kino by Arcadia gathered for a dim sum party featuring fresh, fluffy bao buns. They also learned about the history and cultural significance of bao, a traditional Chinese snack symbolizing warmth, family, and togetherness. The celebration concluded with the Academy Award-winning short film Bao, a touching story about a mother’s love.

Fluttering with Creativity

Arcadia Adult Day Care clients got crafty with a butterfly project,

creating colorful, one-of-a-kind designs. With paper cutouts and a sprinkle of imagination, each

person decorated unique gowns made from paper butterflies.

“This week, we proudly celebrated Environmental Services Week. Mahalo to AFC’s Environmental Services Teams, whose kindness, compassion, and respect ensure exceptional care and service for our residents, clients, and members.” -Suzie Schulberg, President & CEO
